Just noticed in there that they are calling their network "Fast & Free Wireless" (like Amazon's "Whispernet"). That's great branding for a few reasons:

1. It tells you exactly what to expect: Fast, Free.
2. It mirrors the name of B&N's physical shipping option.

No, that's the AT&T connection that can be used anywhere that AT&T provides service.

From the manual:

Quote:
Cellular and Wi-Fi connectivity: Your nook uses B&N Fast & Free Wireless (a fast cellular data network) for its main connectivity to the Barnes & Noble online store and to nook data services such as your online digital library. When in a Barnes & Noble store, or when a Wi-Fi connection is detected and joined or manually configured and joined, your nook preferentially uses Wi-Fi.

I don't care to. I don't plan on owning one in the near future. however I am out and about fairly often and do get asked questions about the various readers. I try to be as fair and informed as possible about them. you guys own them, you are becoming the in-house experts, you let us know what the deal is

Yes, providing the hotspot does not require a web browser for validation. Many commercial hot spots do invoke a login page via a web browser, and these won't work.
