Woodblock printing is a technique for printing text, images or patterns used widely throughout East Asia and originating in China in antiquity as a method of printing on textiles and later paper. As a method of printing on cloth, the earliest surviving examples from China date to before 220, and from Egypt to the 4th century. Ukiyo-e is the best known type of Japanese woodblock art print. Most European uses of the technique on paper are covered by the art term woodcut, except for the block-books produced mainly in the fifteenth century.

This illustrated 1916 edition describes the technique.

Thanks for this. There are a fair number of art related books on Project Gutenberg and I've wondered how they might look on the Sony, but I hadn't got around to formatting any.

I loaded the book onto my Sony and given the limited gradation range of the device I think the book looks good. The illustrations at the beginning of the book, which I assume are mostly line drawings, look great and the reproductions of prints at the back of the book look as good as can be on this small device. Thanks for a job well done.
