September 2021 Vote (Non-Fiction)

Multiple choice poll, as usual. If there's a tie, I'll roll a die.

The poll closes on Thursday.

Bonk by Mary Roach
Quote:
In Bonk, Mary turns her outrageous curiosity and insight on the most alluring scientific subject of all: sex. Can a person think herself to orgasm? Why doesn't Viagra help women-or, for that matter, pandas? Can a dead man get an erection? Is vaginal orgasm a myth? Mary Roach shows us how and why sexual arousal and orgasm-two of the most complex, delightful, and amazing scientific phenomena on earth-can be so hard to achieve and what science is doing to make the bedroom a more satisfying place.
A Brief History of Time by Stephen Hawking
Quote:
A landmark volume in science writing by one of the great minds of our time, Stephen Hawking’s book explores such profound questions as: How did the universe begin—and what made its start possible? Does time always flow forward? Is the universe unending—or are there boundaries? Are there other dimensions in space? What will happen when it all ends?

Told in language we all can understand, A Brief History of Time plunges into the exotic realms of black holes and quarks, of antimatter and “arrows of time,” of the big bang and a bigger God—where the possibilities are wondrous and unexpected. With exciting images and profound imagination, Stephen Hawking brings us closer to the ultimate secrets at the very heart of creation.
This is Not a Drill by Extinction Rebellion
Quote:
It's time. This is our last chance to do anything about the global climate and ecological emergency. Our last chance to save the world as we know it.

Now or never, we need to be radical. We need to rise up. And we need to rebel.

Extinction Rebellion is a global activist movement of ordinary people, demanding action from Governments. This is a book of truth and action. It has facts to arm you, stories to empower you, pages to fill in and pages to rip out, alongside instructions on how to rebel - from organising a roadblock to facing arrest.

Right, I said I'd roll a die if there was a tie, but with only two people voting there doesn't seem to be much point in doing that.

If anyone wants to discuss either of these books, they can start a discussion thread, but for now I'm going to assume that non-fiction was a bust.

We could start nominating for October early, I guess.

I've read "A brief history of time" before. interesting but perhaps a bit dry for many.

I already have A Brief History of Time and it’s on my TBR list. I also just bought This is Not a Drill. So I’ll be reading both, but with no discussion thread I may wait a bit. What’s next month’s theme?

I suggest anyone who feels like it (including you, if you want ) starts a nomination thread for Horror when they feel like it, with whichever rules (deadline, number of nods required, number of nominations and nods each person can give) they like. (I'm not going to start the thread this time, but I have some nominations.)
