Ectaco JetBook update coming on 2 April
I just received an email confirming that Ectaco is planning to release an update for the JetBook on 2 April. The update will include Epub and Mobipocket support, but will not include support for Mobipocket DRM.

I sent an email several weeks ago to Jetbook asking if DRM versions of either Mobipocket or EPUB would be supported. The following is quoted from the response I received from the sales manager: "We do not plan to release any jetBook version with the DRM files support in the near future."
Hopefully they will support it sometime in the future, but it doesn't appear to be on their priority list. I'm still thinking about picking one up as a relatively inexpensive backup reader. SteveK |

I'm charging my M218A right now. When it is done I will try to reflash it with the Jetbook firmware.

I'm hoping the new firmware update will fix the SD card problem I'm having. Other than that, it works pretty well. It seems to turn the pages in 1 to 1.5 seconds on very large PDFs and takes a while to refresh the file list if there are more than 80 books in the internal memory.
High hopes for the firmware update ... yep. |

SD Card Reading Problem
Sometimes I'll insert and SD card and it will show the books I have on it. If I turn it off and back on, sometimes it does not see the SD card any more. Usually, I can reinsert it and it'll come back, other times, it will refuse to read it without a reset. I have the latest firmware from last fall installed. That's why I'm excited about the firmware update. Maybe that will fix my problem.

This is interesting news to hear; the JetBook looks like a decent piece of hardware, and this software update will only improve it. Plus, for that price...

I have two different SD cards. One 2GB Sandisk Extreme III which it does not like consistently and 1GB Transend card that it likes. But, I still have the disappearing problem. It's usually not an issue but when I do the next firmware update, I'm a little concerned. I do hope the stability improves a bit with the update. I have my fingers crossed.
