How to recover Calibre from Backup?
Dear All,
My OSX SSD broke and I have only Time-Machine backup of the system and Linux laptop with Debian 8.1. I would like to recover my library from the backup files. I opened also a thread about the issue here http://superuser.com/q/947597/2005 How can you recover Calibre from Time-Machine backups in Linux? |

All you need to do is restore your Calibre Library Directory from your backup. Then simply install the latest version of Calibre and tell it to use your restored library.

Restore the Entire Library folder (and ONLY from a single backup). The DB records and title folder (paths) are 1<>1 Pairs. which is why you never mix.
If you need books from a second backup: 1)open as a separate Library and use the Copy to Library context Menu tool 2)Use Add Books. The first does a great job of maintaining your metadata, which might not have been inserted into the book |

I extended BetterRed's excellent answer here http://apple.stackexchange.com/q/198664/15504 since I cannot find things named Calibre in my TimeMachine's backups.

@Masi - to confirm the configuration data location try this :-
In main GUI program (library manager) go to Preferences->Miscellaneous and click Open configuration directory If you're minded, you should be able to change the location via the CALIBRE_CONFIG_DIRECTORY environment variable, see ==>> Environment variables. I moved mine so its 'adjacent' to my libraries. BR Last edited by BetterRed; 08-03-2015 at 09:53 PM. |

curious: if on a new PC I were to restore from my backups of app data ( config data) and of calibre library, BUT I were to place the calibre library somethere else, on D: drive say instead of C: would that corrupt . i.e. does any important stuff in config data point at an absolute library location ?
