Feature Request:Add two different files with the same file format as one book

I would want to add two pdf as one book,
Why?
Because one is the original pdf and the second one is the pdf processed by k2pdfopt,
it would be great to have them as alternative files in one book,

Would it be possible?

Thank you.

Not for PDF
But Merge EPUB PI could do the job if they were EPUB

I do not see this ever happening.

It would require major changes to the database schema and the Calibre code to allow more than one file for a given format to be associated with a given book record.

Workaround might be to rename one of them so it has a different file extension. Another possibility is to put them inside an archive (e.g .rar or .7z).

@hola!claude - another possibility is to keep the secondary PDF (the original I would guess) elsewhere in your file system, e.g. a folder called libraryname_originalPDFs.

Then put a link to the file in the built in Comments column, or a long_text custom column. To add such a link click this in the Comments Editor toolbar. You can use the Browse button in the subsequent dialogue to navigate to the file.

You'll then be able to click on the Link in the Book Details panel, and the PDF Reader that your OS knows about should kick into action.

If you put the links into a custom column, then you'll probably want to add the column to the list in the Preferences->Look and Feel->Book Details tab.

BR

@itimpi
All right no big problem, just wanted to know if it would be possible,
Calibre is already as close to perfect as it can be!

@BetterRed Thanks for the idea! I will try it right now.

@theducks unfortunately I really needed this feature for PDF files
