Corinne Maier, the French author of 'No Kids', was on a radio phone-in here a couple of years ago. She was treated like a pariah by a lot of parents who called in - many of them seemed to agree with her view that having offspring may have been a mistake, but took strong exception to her airing her regrets in public. They thought it would be bad for the children.

As a teenager, my brother and I asked my mother "if you could do it all over again, would you have children?" She thought a moment, and said "I love you both dearly (and we knew she meant it) but if I could do it all over again I'd never have kids!"
That was about 50 years ago. Now, my son is in his thirties. I fully understand my mother's point of view. I couldn't ask for a better kid (although if he were rich enough to support me that would be nice,) smart, pleasant, kind, great sense of humor, etc., all the things we want our kids to be. But if I could do it all over again... Stitchawl |

hm, well my cat has an unfortunate habit of scratching the chair that i painstakingly re-covered (myself !) with a la poste postal sack, and both of them generate larger quantities of fur than i would have thought possible (they're just not that big, and yet somehow...), but all in all i'd say i'm pretty lucky with them nonetheless ! and they're definitely less of a pain in the arse than a couple of shums !!!

I would have had more kids. or at least had them later in life. I've been empty nested for awhile and was completely unprepared for that. neither of them show any inclination to make any grandbabies anytime soon. I guess that's why I teach skiing and have critters

My first is now almost 2 years old. So far he hasn't broken anything important. Actually, not really anything at all.
I'd probably do it again if I could start over. That said, I do miss sleeping in on weekends and going out. And I miss my home-office. |

Our kids have destroyed, broken, ruined, mutilated, and generally made inoperable for their originally intended function quite a few things.
We'd gladly do it all over again!! Although we might do a bit better job of hiding the magic markers and crayons. |
