Exclamation German retailer Weltbild GmbH & Co. KG has filed for insolvency

Quote:
We received notification from our retail partner Libri GmbH ("Libri"), who shows up on the D2D dashboard as Tolino, that the German retailer Weltbild GmbH & Co. KG has filed for insolvency. Libri has also informed us that Weltbild is in default of its May payment and as such has had its ebook distribution rights withdrawn.

Weltbild is one store among Tolino’s expansive European network. Tolino is a German consortium whose retail reach spreads across four countries and includes over 1,000 retail stores in Germany alone and hundreds of stores in other countries. Your ebook distribution to other retailers in the Tolino network will continue uninterrupted.
Very confusing!

This is the second time that Weltbild had to file for insolvency.

The last time was in 2014. (If you scroll down you will actually find a couple of threads about this from 10 years ago under "similar threads".)

They released a statement on their website (in german) that says the company is being restructured and that things will continue to operate as usual.

Google translation:

Quote:
Weltbild is restructuring itself as part of insolvency proceedings - business operations continue as normal

Weltbild has filed for insolvency proceedings in order to restructure itself. A provisional insolvency administrator has been appointed. The proceedings have no impact on you. All ordering and purchasing processes continue as usual, goods are delivered as usual.

We thank you for your loyalty and look forward to being able to offer you inspiring shopping experiences and a great selection in the future.

Your Weltbild team

Also Weltbild is NOT Tolino...
They are only one of multiple partners in the Tolino Alliance. Even if Weltbild were to go belly up, it would most likely have no significant impact on Tolino e-readers.

As Thalia is still the biggest single shareholder of Tolino, we don't have to worry.
