A History of the World According to Getty Images
An independent filmmaker has just released this documentary to the world.
https://www.vpm.org/npr-news/2023-05...orical-footage It's 14.7 GB in length, and probably clogging up the internet for the next week or so. Numerous visual images are in the "public domain", which is a nebulous concept when the film or photograph is hidden from the public. Disney should buy the subject matter, and lock it up in copyright prison for the next century. However, the filmmaker claims that he has released the Hindenburg photo to the masses via his movie. One wonders if that is true or not. N.B.: The film was released in 2022. The NPR story is creating new interest in the work. Last edited by Fat Abe; 05-01-2023 at 06:15 PM. |

It's on youtube at least twice (with very few views).
I heard the NPR segemnt earlier today. I knew that it is legal (and reasonable) to charge to provide public domain material in the US.But I did not know it is legal to contractually restrict what can be done with it. The Hindenburg clip is is footage, not a still image. There is no reason to believe he is restricted from providing his film for free (or charge), nor is he required to put any restriction on the use of his film.
