Kindle for iPad and Kindle for Mac now syncs notes and highlights.
When did this happen? I updated both my iPad and iMac with the latest Kindle apps and guess what.... they seem to sync now. Not only "furthest read" but also "notes" and "highlights." Is this new? My old versions did not sync! In fact, Kindle for Mac didn't do much of anything!

Do you mean even books you didn't buy through the Kindle Store sync highlights and notes? That would be nice...

Well.. I assume not as I have been a real big complainer about lack of sync in ANY reader with side-loaded material as that's 90% of what I read. I was just blown away by the fact that they finally did it for PURCHASED books. The Kindle for Mac (desktop) app pretty much didn't to much of anything previously.

Actually, you could manually move the .mbp file (notations) from the iPad to the Mac app by using iTunes on your Mac. Connect the iPad via usb. Select your iPad in iTunes and then Apps. Scroll down to the File Sharing window and your'll see a mbp file for each book. You can "save to" your mack and you now have the notations file.
You could also use a file app like DiskAid |

They added *creation* of notes and highlights later that year. And they added side loading to iOS in Jan. 2011. But, AFAIK, they still don't sync bookmarks, etc. on non-purchases/side loaded books, which is a pretty nice feature of iBooks.j (Looking back on it, Amazon has been incredibly prolific in releasing both iOS and Mac software for the Kindle. They were even one of the first to jump into the Mac App Store) |
