Long Utopia (The Long Earth Book 4)
by Terry Pratchett and Stephen Baxter

is $1.99 at Amazon

http://www.amazon.com/Long-Utopia-Ea...ds=Long+utopia

Below is the blurb:
The fourth novel in Terry Pratchett and Stephen Baxter’s internationally bestselling “Long Earth” series, hailed as “a brilliant science fiction collaboration . . . a love letter to all Pratchett fans, readers, and lovers of wonder everywhere” (Io9).

2045-2059. Human society continues to evolve on Datum Earth, its battered and weary origin planet, as the spread of humanity progresses throughout the many Earths beyond.

Lobsang, now an elderly and complex AI, suffers a breakdown, and disguised as a human attempts to live a “normal” life on one of the millions of Long Earth worlds. His old friend, Joshua, now in his fifties, searches for his father and discovers a heretofore unknown family history. And the super-intelligent post-humans known as “the Next” continue to adapt to life among “lesser” humans.

But an alarming new challenge looms. An alien planet has somehow become “entangled” with one of the Long Earth worlds and, as Lobsang and Joshua learn, its voracious denizens intend to capture, conquer, and colonize the new universe—the Long Earth—they have inadvertently discovered.

World-building, the intersection of universes, the coexistence of diverse species, and the cosmic meaning of the Long Earth itself are among the mind-expanding themes explored in this exciting new installment of Terry Pratchett and Stephen Baxter's extraordinary Long Earth series.

The Dragon's Path by Daniel Abraham is $1.99 at Amazon US. It is the first book of The Dagger and the Coin series.

This series any good? I think I have heard good things about it and the Long Price Quartet. I am currently in between books and deciding what to read next.

Quicksilver by Neal Stephenson is also $1.99 at Amazon US. This is a doorstop book that is the first of his Baroque Cycle. I have read them and can definitely recommend them if you want a funny and interesting tale about the scientific revolution.

I haven't read The Dragon's Path yet, but the Long Price Quartet is pretty darn good.

This edition of The Dragon's Path also includes the full text of Leviathan Wakes, the first book in the sci-fi series Abraham co-writes with Ty Franck under the name James S. A. Corey. So you get two books for two bucks. Note that some editions of Leviathan Wakes likewise include the full text of The Dragon's Path, so check your libraries to make sure you're not inadvertently double-dipping.

Note FizzyWater observes this is probably a novella and thus the price is unsurprising.

Seanan McGuire's Every Heart a Doorway is available for pre-order at Amazon US, for $2.99. Releases on April 5th.

I believe this is the first in another new series for her (does the woman sleep?):

Quote:
Eleanor West's Home for Wayward Children
No Solicitations
No Visitors
No Quests

Children have always disappeared under the right conditions; slipping through the shadows under a bed or at the back of a wardrobe, tumbling down rabbit holes and into old wells, and emerging somewhere... else.

But magical lands have little need for used-up miracle children.

Nancy tumbled once, but now she's back. The things she's experienced... they change a person. The children under Miss West's care understand all too well. And each of them is seeking a way back to their own fantasy world.

But Nancy's arrival marks a change at the Home. There's a darkness just around each corner, and when tragedy strikes, it's up to Nancy and her new-found schoolmates to get to the heart of things.

No matter the cost.

Cassandra Rose Clarke's Our Lady of the Ice is $2.99 at Amazon US right now.

Quote:
The Yiddish Policeman’s Union meets The Windup Girl when a female PI goes up against a ruthless gangster—just as both humans and robots agitate for independence in an Argentinian colony in Antarctica.

In Argentine Antarctica, Eliana Gomez is the only female PI in Hope City—a domed colony dependent on electricity (and maintenance robots) for heat, light, and survival in the icy deserts of the continent. At the center is an old amusement park—now home only to the androids once programmed to entertain—but Hope City’s days as a tourist destination are long over. Now the City produces atomic power for the mainland while local factions agitate for independence and a local mobster, Ignacio Cabrera, runs a brisk black-market trade in illegally imported food.

Eliana doesn’t care about politics. She doesn’t even care—much—that her boyfriend, Diego, works as muscle for Cabrera. She just wants to save enough money to escape Hope City. But when an aristocrat hires Eliana to protect an explosive personal secret, Eliana finds herself caught up in the political tensions threatening to tear Hope City apart. In the clash of backstabbing politicians, violent freedom fighters, a gangster who will stop at nothing to protect his interests, and a newly sentient robot underclass intent on a very different independence, Eliana finds her job coming into deadly conflict with Diego’s, just as the electricity that keeps Hope City from freezing begins to fail…

From the inner workings of the mob to the story of a revolution to the amazing settings, this story has got it all. Ultimately, however, Our Lady of the Ice questions what it means to be human, what it means to be free, and whether we’re ever able to transcend our pasts and our programming to find true independence.

Just saw one more: Linda Nagata's Going Dark, book 3 of the Red Trilogy is $2.99 at Amazon US, as are book 1 and book 2. The first two volumes were at that price previously, but I think this may be the first drop for the conclusion.

Book 1 blurb
Spoiler:
A Publishers Weekly Best Book of 2015

Reality TV and advanced technology make for high drama in this political thriller that combines the military action of Zero Dark Thirty with the classic science fiction of The Forever War.

Lieutenant James Shelley, who has an uncanny knack for premeditating danger, leads a squad of advanced US Army military tasked with enforcing the peace around a conflict in sub-Saharan Africa. The squad members are linked wirelessly 24/7 to themselves and a central intelligence that guides them via drone relay--and unbeknownst to Shelley and his team, they are being recorded for a reality TV show.

When an airstrike almost destroys their outpost, a plot begins to unravel that's worthy of Crichton and Clancy's best. The conflict soon involves rogue defense contractors, corrupt US politicians, and homegrown terrorists who possess nuclear bombs. Soon Shelley must accept that the helpful warnings in his head could be AI. But what is the cost of serving its agenda?

Book 3 blurb
Spoiler:

Presumed dead by those closest to him and with no intention of setting the record straight, former army Lt. James Shelley is recruited by a black ops outfit devoted to two things: guarding the Earth from existential threats, and the Red. Operating for almost two years among soldiers who are enhanced, and controlled, just as he is, Shelley believes he's learned a proper caution in working with the mysterious artificial intelligence--until the Red's increasingly erratic behavior ignites an accidental war, and launches Shelley on a collision course with his old life. In the final book of The Red Trilogy, Shelley must choose who--or what--to trust, while struggling to contain an escalating conflict that threatens to plunge the world into chaos, and destroy those he loves.

Amazon's reviewers commented more than once that this is more a novella than a book. That $2.99 might be it's always-price.

Thanks for pointing this out - it's Tor.com, which I think is what they're using as their novella imprint. I figured it was just the first of McGuire's jillion novels for the year, should've looked closer.

It is. The book is part of Tor.com's novella line, and the digital editions of all titles in that series are always $2.99. (They also do bundles with all three of a given month's novellas for $6.99.)
