I think the fact that the one cooking related thread we have hasn't had a post in nine months probably speaks for itself.

I don't know how long this offer is going to last, but it's still available today.

Having just finished the first one, I can recommend the Gil Cunningham novels by Pat McIntosh which are part of this offer.

Free today on Amazon - The Red Hot Empress (The Mystic Cafe) by Meredith Blevins

(Book 1 was free in December)

'Nudged by mother-in-law Madame Mina, Annie writes an article about Jimmy Qi, an Asian boy with the power to heal through music, which soon puts the youngster in danger.

Everyone, it seems, wants a piece of the rising star of San Francisco's Chinatown—including a shady evangelist, the FBI, the tongs and a man who talks to dolphins. After two suspicious deaths, Annie and Jimmy go on the lam, not knowing whom to trust or why. Leo Rosetti, Annie's lover, and her daughter, E.B., are also tossed into the intrigue, along with meddling world-famous twins who have taken a shine to Annie and Jimmy.'

Sigh. Still way too high in the US, except for the most recent one (which also was very good, pick them up if you can get this UK deal.) The first is available through the Prime/Kindle owners' Lending Library as well; those who are members where this program is available can borrow the first in the series, The Harper's Quine, for free.

Kindle needs a good Gaelic dictionary for these though!

The Gil Cunningham books are excellent. I snagged all of them.... So much for the budget. BTW, there's not a lot of gaelic, but there is some scots dialect which is understandable form context. Some of it I remember from a Glasgow childhood.....

Free Today on Amazon - Catered to Death (A Midlife Crisis Mystery) by Marlo Hollinger

'Steve and Dee Dee Pearson enjoy that rare thing--a happy marriage. The only fly in their marital bliss is the fact that they are approaching retirement with only one pension (Steve's). Dee Dee hopes to remedy their financial situation by starting a catering business. Her first job is at Eden Academy, a private school staffed by teachers who loathe one another and a principal who is strongly lacking in principles, especially when it comes to his female employees. When the principal winds up dead after Dee Dee's luncheon, Dee Dee's paycheck is put on what looks like permanent hold. Dee Dee decides to help find out who murdered the principal so that she can be assured that her very first catering job will be paid in full. Dee Dee investigates all of the teachers at Eden Academy and discovers that any one of them could have finished off their boss. '

Free Today on Amazon UK - Death Knock (An Inspector Jim Meldrum Thriller) by Frederic Lindsay

'Three hot days in a row and Edinburgh is going a little crazy.
Taking a short cut through a tough housing scheme, Detective Inspector Jim Meldrum finds himself caught up in an ambush by a mob of twelve-year-olds.
And when he arrives at a murder scene, it is with a lump gouged out of his skull and mild concussion.
But that is just the start of his trouble.
The victim is identified as the well-connected city businessman Brian Ashton.
Even with a brooding headache and a bad case of double vision, Meldrum can see this case is a minefield.
And that's before he meets the victim's red-headed widow.
Helped by local academic and crime profiler Henry Stanley, Meldrum begins to unravel the bizarre secrets surrounding more than one sudden death.
Can he catch the killer before death comes knocking again?
Or has Meldrum finally met his match?

'Death Knock' is a chilling crime thriller that is perfect for fans of Peter James and Peter Robinson.'
