Maybe we should have Apple sell etch-a-sketches as iPAD 3s, a la Dilbert. I doubt that your "average consumer" would know the difference. My complaint is not for simple machines for lazy people, but the continuing mantra that "this is the best, this is the best" to people who have even a tiny amount of expertise. It isn't, by a long sight. I suppose I shouldn't complain about Steve Job's using P.T. Barnum's motto... |

So Samsung, HP, and RIM also tried to "milk their customers", they just failed at it, just as you failed to mention them in your original complaint about Apple's pricing?

Most consumer-level users that come into my work's multimedia lab don't care about their SD card even if their device has one. The slot goes unused or remains filled with the card that came with it. The exception being serious amateur photographers/videographers.

While we're off-topic, let me mention that Android will only make inroads on the tablet market when it is considerably cheaper than Apple, while offering the same or better specs. Last edited by afv011; 09-15-2011 at 12:08 AM. |

The bestselling tablet (iPad) doesn't. The bestselling eReader (Kindle) doesn't. Somehow this doesn't seem to have affected their success. |

The success of those devices doesn't alter the point being made that most average users of consumer devices will have come across SD cards and not been unduly confused by them. Graham |

The user interface complication does not come from it being an SD card, but from having multiple different storage options. Again, I'm not saying it is rocket science, what I am saying is: Quote:

I have an iPad-I don't own a digital camera My sister has an iPhone-she doesn't have a digital camera For a lot of folks-especially younger ones-their phone IS their digital camera. I would say that techno-sohispicates and serious photographers know SD cards and understand that they come in different flavors, etc. But that's not the average phone user. |
