Here you go with the Portuguese hyphenation dictionary. I used values of 3/3. If this works, I can try 2/2 and you can test that and let me know which one works better.

Jon,

I have one question. Looking at the file that I put here, i see the encoding="ISO-8859-1" and in your file you put encoding="UTF-8".

So I have 2 types of encoding. I will remove one and test to see what I get here.

EDIT: very nice!! tried here the 3/3 with the ISO encoding and the spaces between words is so much better now. I take 2 pictures of different books to compare (will post here later).

Looking for the difference between the two, I read that ISO supports our vocabulary (Portuguese from Brazil) much better, which has many accents.

The result was:

First book - 3/3 to 2/2 - on the same page only one word has been modified

Second book - same page and nothing changed.

So, I'll keep the 2/2 for now, bcs the change was for better on the 1st book.

I have a problem with no-break space and hyphenation.
Tested with your dict (hyph-fr.dict) and with the kobo's dict and kepub.
With french we use a lot of hyphenation and at the end of a line when we have a quotation mark '«', followed by a no break space and the word, kobo create a false hyphenation like if (see the example) '« jeune' was a true word and it's hyphenated after the no break space : '« -jeune'


ex : Ruth présente O comme « jeune homme de qualité » is sometimes badly hyphenate like (see the picture):
xxxx xxxx xxx xxxxxxxx xxxxx « -
jeune homme de qualité » xxxx xxx

the correct sentence should be :

xxxx xxxx xxx xxxxxxx xxxxx « jeu-
ne homme xxx xxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxx

or

xxx xxxx xxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxx xxx
« jeune homme xxxx xxxxxxxx xxx

Can we have a rule : do not hyphenate after a no break space ?
Or perhaps I need to soft hyphen the epub with the plugin hyphenate it before converting to kepub.

KePub has issues with hyphenation. There's nothing we can do to fix this. The only solution would be to try ePub and see how that goes.

Just as an option / suggestion.

Open this archive and fix on LEFTHYPHENMIN 3
You will not have such hyphenation.
