Yes you backup the Library folders and the Calibre Settings folder and you should be good to go. I back up my 15GB+ Library on Dropbox, and 2 externals too big for discs. I use a sync program to do this so I do not have to copy the entire folder every time. It goes through and only copies and deletes changes so it takes only about 10 minutes to backup my Library.

Which folder is 'Calibre Settings'? I remember somebody saying it's AppData>Roaming>Calibre. Is there anything else?

I browse ereaderiq to find price drops, but it's anAmazon only site (although price drops are frequently found everywhere). You can set filters to show only books that are free, or that have dropped at least 20%, or that are currently under $4, or whatever. They also have a great notification feature where you can enter your wish list and they will send you an email if a book you are watching drops below a certain price. Those emails are lovely little surprises.

I have to say, the evil day job is keeping me so busy that it has really cut into my reading time, but at least it has also curbed my one-click impulses since I have no time to look for bargains.

Backups

OK since sugarsync free is going away I am migrating to Dropbox. With sugarsync no external sync program was required. My understanding is that with Dropbox a sync program would be required. Any suggestions?

I use copy.com, I believe they give you more free space than dropbox. I just have a shortcut to my calibre library in my sync folder so it automatically updates with any changes. Very easy.

Thanks for the swift reply. I am considering trying both. I guess I am just a belt and suspenders kind of girl.

I have a copy of my Calibre libraries in my Copy folder, too.

I originally had a shortcut to auto sync, but removed it after Kovid said that can cause issues since I am using Windows. Here and more recently here

Good to know. I guess I'll have to get in the habit of pausing copy when I'm updating Calibre.

I called my new library Calibre Warehouse.

For windows creating a new library in Calibre is super easy.
  1. Go to the folder where your main calibre library is (in my case the default location C:\Users\UserName).
  2. Create a new folder with the name of your new library (Click on Organize-->New Folder-->type in name)
  3. In Calibre, click on the library icon in the tool bar (see pic 1)
  4. Select "Switch/create library"
  5. Change option to "Create an empty library at the new location" (see pic 2)
  6. Type location of the folder or use the computer icon to navigate your way there (see pic 2 as well)
  7. Click OK

When you have multiple Calibre libraries switching between them is super easy, too. Just clicik on the library icon then select the library you want to view.

I kept forgetting So I just decided manually moving new files to a backup folder was easier.
