I don't know if this has already been mentioned here, but is anyone else having problem with swiping the left edge to adjust brightness? After working really well in previous versions, the function has become much too sensitive again. Whenever I try to swipe I highlight instead or the reading menu comes on first. Is there a trick how to do it right?

It seems to work well for me, but if your margins are small I can see how that would happen. My suggestion is not to touch and then swipe up and down but rather to start the movement before touching the screen.

I gave up long ago and turned off edge brightness swipes. It was a painful experience and manual top menu action is the simplest for me.

I had this problem when I first bought my kobo clara and found that if I did a series of smaller swipes that solved them problem. I seem to have got the hang of things now though.

Kobo firmware 4.19.14123 has been released. As of December 11, 2019, it has been released to the Kobo Touch A/B, Kobo Touch C, Kobo Glo, Kobo Glo HD, Kobo Touch 2.0, Kobo Aura, Kobo Aura HD, Kobo Aura H2O, Kobo Aura H2O Edition 2 v1, Kobo Aura H2O Edition 2 v2, Kobo Aura ONE, Kobo Aura ONE Limited Edition, Kobo Aura Edition 2 v1, Kobo Aura Edition 2 v2, Kobo Clara HD, Kobo Forma, and the Kobo Libra H2O. It has not been released to the Kobo Mini. The affiliates used to check these firmware versions were: kobo, bestbuyca, fnac, beta, rakutenbooks, and the walmartca.

I hope someone will find this useful. This firmware works flawlessly on Kobo Mini. The whole ereader is now much faster and smoother to operate. It nearly runs as fast as my Kobo Clara.
To use it just download the Mark 4 version of the firmware and manually install it.

Here is the link for it: Kobo Mini

and the manual install instructions.

The only minor issue which I have that there is no option to disable the sleep cover function in the settings. I have the option on my Clara but not on the Mini. I recommend to reset the Kobo and just do the basic setup and then install the firmware however, this might not be mandatory.

I believe that the only reason why Kobo is not officially saying that this firmware works perfectly on the Mini as it is much faster compared to the latest official one 3.19.5761-s.

What about 4.20.14622? That's the current firmware. This one may have some problems with it which would explin why 4.20.x came so soon after this one was released.

Even if you don't have the option visible in the Mini's settings it's possible you could get the result you're looking for by manually adding the relevant setting to the Mini's config file, .kobo/Kobo/Kobo eReader.conf. You'll need to use a good text editor which respects Unix line endings (e.g. Notepad++ if you're a Windows user).

Code:
[PowerOptions]
SleepAccessoryEnabled=false
If there's already a [PowerOptions] section present just add the second line to it.

What's the point of disabling the sleep cover from allowing the device to go to sleep?

Did you go to page 2 of the settings? The sleep cover option is at the end of the page, so on the small screen of the Mini, I would expect a second page.

I don't think so. Kobo stopped releasing updates for the Mini at about 3.14. They only release 3.19.5761-s when they officially dropped support for the Mini. Which was done when they removed support for older security protocols from their servers. It was released to allow the Mini to keep connecting to the store and download books.

I don't know why they stopped releasing updates for the Mini. The screen size and resolution probably makes some things difficult, but, it is probably something else. I don't think it was a popular device, so maybe there aren't many in use. My guess that the reason the recent firmware is still working on the Mini is because removing the support would actually be a reasonable amount of work. And I wouldn't be too surprised me the actual developers are keeping it working for their own purposes.

In the event that this doesn't work, I can write a patch for it.

The thing is, 3.19.5761-s is identical from what I looked at. As in, the checksums of the extracted files match... so... I don't know why they released it.

The developers do seem to be doing at least the minimum to keep it working (and they haven't removed it from the Device class, but to be fair, they haven't removed any device from there before). The other thing which keeps it working without much to do on Kobo's part is their brilliant (and confusing) three-layered codename system, which groups a cohort of similar devices (see https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=325471) by a single parent codename (which is used whenever possible in CSS selectors and is on). The only thing I don't understand about this system is why they group them with the same codename as one of the devices in the group (not even always the first one). It means that a lot of their code needs to check if it's the main one, and then check the next level of codenames, but with the fallback used to detect the main one (although this might to be to enforce a way make it easier to add new devices without having to redo all the sizes).

From memory, they had released 3.19.5761 for the Mini in Japan. It is probably some annoying thing in their release process that they needed to put a new label on it to get it out properly.

Thanks for this info now it works perfectly.
I wanted to disable the option as I like to see the full-screen book cover of the book that I am currently reading.
