I just scrolled up and see that Fat Abe edited his post to add Dawes well before I pulled him out. So, Fat Abe, if you'd like to pose the next quiz, be my guest.

Oh, dear, I am feeling a bit morbid today. This list of questions concerns writers that the world has lost, due to unnatural causes.
1. Mother attempted to kill this writer, while he was still in her womb. The writer is believed (by some) to have later killed himself, although the death certificate attributes the cause to kidney failure. 2. This writer, wearing a coat weighted with stones, walked into a river, died and was not found for a month. 3. She was very pretty but insecure. In spite of her beauty, her husband cheated on her. After one or more unsuccessful suicide attempts, she finally took her life using a gas oven. 4. This brilliant writer died by hanging himself. He appeared in a scene in a Simpsons cartoon. |

:: Virginia Woolf 3. She was very pretty but insecure. In spite of her beauty, her husband cheated on her. After one or more unsuccessful suicide attempts, she finally took her life using a gas oven. :: Sylvia Plath Two points to Orlok who will, at the very least, tie for first place. |

:: Jack London 4. This brilliant writer died by hanging himself. He appeared in a scene in a Simpsons cartoon. :: David Foster Wallace Two points for Fbone and two for Orlok. Both winners. I am thinking of a number between 1 and 10. Whichever one is closest to my guess can get the honor of hosting the next quiz, or you can assign this right to the other person. |

7, but I'm happy to give Fbone a go, as I have posed a couple of quizzes recently.

That is 1 away from my lucky number, so you can go if Fbone does not take it in the next four hours. The clock starts now. Tick, tock. The hand now points to Orlok.

I'll pop one in, if I may? Empires;
1. A European empire that was governed by kings called Pepin the Short and Louis the Pious amongst others. 2. TV show set in Atlantic City during the prohibition era. 3. The largest empire ever seen on earth. 4. Empire with the motto, "indivisible and inseparable" that was divided and separated in 1918 5. Who made an over eight hour long film called 'Empire' consisting solely of slow motion, black and white footage of the Empire State Building in 1964? |

2. Boardwalk Empire, starring Steve Buscemi, who was born in Brooklyn. The role he plays is based on a political boss (nicknamed Nucky) who was eventually convicted of racketeering. The show has high production value, but the female leads lack the zest of Dorothy Provine, an actress from a much earlier show, The Roaring 20's, set in Chicago.
