Yup. When I look at the KoboRoot.tgz file inside the OCP packages, there is libnm.so. I suspect that since I installed NickelMenu before the first OCP packages, I just never noticed that the OCP packages also installed NickelMenu.

As mentioned by @ShamanNS, my error. The OCP packages do install NickelMenu.

Hmm, that’s interesting then. NickelMenu was supposed to stay up after an update…

But the error message you got suggests that KFMon is the issue. When NickelMenu attempts to run :
Code:
generator : main : kfmon
it fails to populate NickelMenu with the KFMon watch items such as:
Code:
menu_item : main : KOReader : kfmon : koreader.png
.

Ah, thanks!
I (think) I finally got it.
“NickelMenu” is just a drop-down (drop up? Lol) and that entry in there is kfmon shortcut.
What I need is another script above that was originally commented out.

Got it! Thank you! I’ll try

Thanks everyone!
I uncommented line .adds/nm/koreader and commented out the line in ./add/nm/kfmon, otherwise I had both of them there and I didn't know which one is which.

Hi everyone. I installed Koreader using the one click installer (powershell), how would I go about adding Plato?

I would suggest installing Plato using the Plato installer in message #1 and the script in message #2. This will install Plato 0.9.42 which should work with a Clara BW.

hey guys. i just bought a Kobo Clara Colour for my girlfriend and stuck with the process. first i updated the firmware then did a reset. then i tried to install manually the OCP-Plato-0.9.42_KOReader-v2024.04.zip package on Ubuntu 24.04. however the NickelMenu appeared but the apps won't load. then i tried the scripted method. same happened. everytime i opened the apps both started to load (dot animation appeared) then after about 10-15 secs retired to the home screen. may i missed some steps?

The script will work for Koreader, but you should manually update using the nightly after installing it on the Clara Colour or BW, from here: https://build.koreader.rocks/download/nightly/

Just extract and replace the existing folder of the sam name.

I have a Kobo Glo N613, I just replaced the Battery.
It also had a corrupted SD card ( I think ) so I replaced it with a new one and installed a disc image with my PC laptop.
Rebooting got me to the message to connect to my PC and hence to the Kobo Desktop..
The reader was updated and then ceased to function. Could not see it in Windows at all.
A factory reset was required so that I could see the files again.
Tried this a couple of times with the same result.
Decided that I didn't need Kobo Desktop anyway so decide to install another reader.
Went through the one click process and installed the packages. These installed and I could see them in File Manager. However the reader just rebooted to the opening screen and asked to connect to the Kobo Desktop!!
My question is, would the factory reset be the problem and do I have to reinstall the disc image and start again or have I done something else wrong.
Thanks

Hi there,

I am completely new to Kobo (Libre 2) but am trying to install the KOReader via my W11 PC using the installer at the beginning of this thread. I downloaded the 2024 KO Reader zip plus the installer file, unblocked the script and ran it with PowerShell, I saw the command prompt window open and immediately close and absolutely nothing else happened. My Kobo was connected at drive E at the time. Any suggestions?

Cheers Andrew

I just installed KOReader and Plato manually (OCP-Plato-0.9.42_KOReader-v2024.04.zip) as the auto script would not work for me on Windows 11. After it installed, clicking on either KOreader or Plato would crash my Kobo Clara BW.

The KOReader github page states that "The full Kobo lineup is currently supported". Is this not the case? I can't get it to work no matter what I try.

After deciding I might try installing them individually I discovered that Plato's GitHub had a new release last week with "support for Kobo Clara BW". Unfortunately the download it is not packaged in a way I can try it on my Kobo. Is it possible to update the zip file on this thread for Plato to reflect the new update?
