I am currently re-reading Demon Bound by Meljean Brooks. Demon Marked was just released, but I stopped myself from buying it by telling myself I should read the previous 6 books first, this is the third book. ( Well. 5 since the first book isn't available as e-book )

I finished Den of Thieves by David Chandler over the weekend. A very good read and even though it's part of a trilogy it can be read as a standalone. Think heist novel set in a fantasy world.

Reading American Rust
Buell, Pennsylvania lies in ruins, a dying--if not already dead--steel town, where even the lush surrounding country seethes with concealed industrial toxins. When Isaac English and Billy Poe--a pair of high-school friends straight out of Steinbeck--embark on a starry-eyed cross-country escape to California, a violent encounter with a trio of transients leaves one dead, prying the lid off a rusted can of failed hope and small-town secrets. American Rust is Philipp Meyer's first novel, and his taut, direct prose strikes the perfect tone for this kaleidoscope of fractured dreams, elevating a book that otherwise might be relentlessly dour to the level of honest and unflinching storytelling. |

I just finished the book, it's fairly slow paced and very bleak. The ending I'm not sure I even understand, guess I need to think about it a bit yet.. I wouldn't call it one of the greatest books ever like listed in the review but it was not bad, it makes you think, it's worth reading. |

Odyssey One by Evan Currie. its a very long (150k word) space opera about space exploration and first contact. I just started it so I don't have much of an opinion yet.

Just started Drive by James Sallis it's not a long book so I am hoping to finish it before the film version comes out. It has a cracker opening so I'm looking forward to getting stuck into it

DixieGal is right: We're Just Like You, Only Prettier: Confessions of a Tarnished Southern Belle by Celia Rivenbark is a very funny book. I just finished it a few minutes ago.
Thanks for recommending it, and Karma coming your way, DG. Last edited by WT Sharpe; 09-14-2011 at 10:24 AM. |

Currently reading Amazir
An idealistic young Englishman, Harry Summerfield, befriends an American oil explorer in Gibraltar in the 1930s. Their meeting sparks a journey for both men that will take them across Morocco and northern Africa, to encounter the harsh realities of Berber opposition to French colonial rule and the passion and conflict of a love for the same young French woman. Full of action, character and extraordinarily vivid local colour, this is a vast novel of adventure, romance and intrigue which keeps the reader guessing page after page. From the hustle and bustle of Marrakech to the beautiful solitude of the Atlas Mountains, and incorporating all levels of society in pre-war Morocco (from Berber tribesmen to French politicians), Amazir is a powerfully evocative work dealing with a vast spectrum of human experience - from wonder to despair. Revisiting the traditional epic-style novel format, Tom Gamble's Amazir is a breathtaking journey into the souks and mountains of Morocco that chronicles a powerful love affair and a nation's political turmoil. |
