Even if it was a version available for 5.xx yet, you can't get it through the plugin updater. Google Apprentice Alf and bookmark it and check back every so often; from what I've seen they're working on updating it.

Until then, see the first post and use 4.23 portable.

You can't use ANY 5.x at this time.
you need to use the latest 4.x that will run on your system

I did test the current code and while it still has a way to go, it works with Amazon eInk Kindle eBooks (only tested KF8). It does not work with Kindle for PC. You cannot use the json file from previous. I've hoping that gets fixed. ePub does not work.

So it is a work in progress and it does sort of work.

Do you have any insight on whether it works on Adobe DRMd PDFs?

I've not tried Obok as I prefer to remove DRM from ePub. But given that ePub DRM removal does not work, PDF won't work as well.

For me, Obok is working on calibre 5.2. Still shows the version as 6.7.0. I got this version by running make_release.py on the code downloaded from Apprentice Harper's github site.

So far, for me, it does not work on any Adobe DRMed files. Hence, my 5.3 main install and 4.23 portable (modified for a portable 64 bit install) install. My 5.3 install has a library pointed at the portable library so copy or copy/delete from there to my intake library works.

The main thing I find annoying about the portable method is that you can't run them simultaneously. (Though that would cause issues if you shared a library between them.)

All we need is a proper multi-user database server and calibre modified to use locking. It might not quite fit on most people's computer (they tend to be memory and disk space hogs). Not to mention how few are available for Linux, MacOS and Windows.

SQLite is a great product but it is oriented towards single user systems which is pretty obvious from a write locking the entire database.

I think Oracle Berkeley is relatively compatible with SQLite, but that's probably one of those memory/space hogs you mentioned. And it's bloody Oracle.

I bought a book from Amazon yesterday, wondering whether I'd have a problem or not, but it was fine. So today I bought another, but I couldn't convert it because of DRM. I don't understand why. Unfortunately both books are only available on Amazon, otherwise I would have bought them elsewhere.
If I understand the thread, I'll have to go back to the 4.23 version of Calibre - with no enthusiasm whatever. My present version is the portable 5.3 version and the most recent version of the usual plugins.

Could've been different formats, or perhaps Kindle software went and updated itself (the few times I've used it, I had trouble with it trying to update even though I told it specifically not to update).

It was the 1.17 version when I loaded it (the icon is different), though when I reopened it, it updated itself, and I had to load 1.17 again. Thank you for the link, but it is a thread I follow. Anyway, I downgraded Calibre to 4.23, imported the book again, converted it with no problem, and re-updated Calibre to 5.3. Just another couple of steps in the process...
