Assuming you don't intend to connect to a network, XP still runs as well as it ever did...

It is however a legitimate point that it can be hacked in ways Win7 cannot. That is the whole "patching" thing.

Personally I avoid the issue and upgade -- to linux, which is less resource-intensive than either version of Windows, has a much better Start Menu than XP (whoever decided to allow installers to install launchers willy-nilly should be shot, much better to have them register themselves as categories and leave the OS to sort it out), and up to date both in security and in feature design, and free to boot.
