Hmmm ....

Not sure if you were referring to my post , lol ...

I was not talking about expectations about this phone but expectations in general, cellphone market.

Users basically came from several weeks of standby mode to a few days now. Couple of days or two days of charge (with normal usage) to 10 hrs, maybe a day if we're lucky. At least, I think that's true for most today's smart-phones: HTC, Samsung, Apple.

I disagree, while Apple might not be responsible for all the rumors, they sure had a hand in many of the rumors. It's a great stalling tactic giving them time to update the aging 4 phone to compete with the current slate of Android phones.

Absolutely not, but there were a LOT of rumors about iPhone 5, everyone was talking about iPhone 5 (including the New York Times and the Wall Street Journal, I don't mean blogs), and I think it was in Apple's best interest to dispell those rumors. I'm certain that Apple has managed expectations and seeded rumors of their own in the past.

I think people ought to step back and wait till the iPhone 4S actually gets into people's hands before dismissing this upgrade. Natural Voice interaction with computers has been the Holy Grail of the computer world ever since 2001: A Space Odessey, if not before then. If Apple achieved this , that would be major.
Apple has a reputation for two things:

1. Not doing things first, but doing things right.
2. In terms of user experience, anticipating what the user wants and providing it. They refer to it as "skating to not where the puck is, but to where the puck is going to be"

Of course there have been flops (Ping anyone?) but there have been a string of monster home runs. It may take a while to figure out whether this is a Face Time or an iPad. But based on the past 10 years, I would invest in Apple stock.

Yeah... "anticipating the market" doesn't sound nearly as cool as a cliched hockey reference.

And then delivering a product that falls just short of that goal, so they can make more money by releasing an upgrade that hits that goal while falling short of the next one.

Planned obsolescence; what a way to stay in the black.

Two months ago there was the news about the iphone5 prototype being lost in a bar. Didn't Apple call it iphone5? Or was that supposed to have been the iphone4s?
