Compared to Clara 2E? The new one has a Carta 1300 screen.

Well, no, they're not. At least not according to the poster of the photos who stated in their description:

...The photos are all without frontlight in a medium-bright room...

But I have no idea which Kindle Paperwhite that is and the OP didn't say.

Also, I believe there ars reports saying it has a different processor. Also a slight weight difference. And Kobo is saying better battery life, I think.

Jon, please find a seat in the corner with your conical hat. If you had bothered to look at Kobo's US page, you would notice that all instances of Libra Colour and Clara Colour are spelled with a u in colour. I tested this using the Tor browser from multiple locations.

See attached image. If you want to check other sites such as FNAC, you will notice that the proper names of the ereaders are not translated:

The Clara BW has a dual core processor (MediaTEK MTK8113L) compared to the Freescale Solo Lite single core 1GHz CPU in the Clara 2E. The Clara BW has a Carta 1300 eInk display which has better contrast and speed than that Carta 1200 in the Clara 2E. Not certain as to how much real difference that display will make but the difference between the Clara HD's Carta display and the Clara 2E's Carta 1200 display was noticeable in a side by side comparison but not very much otherwise. The battery, storage and RAM are the same.

As yet, we do not know if any of the new models have an internal µSD card which is fairly important to allowing upgraded storage or recovery from a damaged card.

Not to those of us who always use the frontlight. Photos with the frontlight off would be useless to me, because I never read that way.

The new Clara BW only has a single-core 1 GHz processor still.

The dual-core 2 GHz version only made it into the color version of both the Clara and Libra.

I'm basing that it's a PW4 on the fact that it's smaller enough to the Kobo that I think it's a 6" screen. That and the background is a big darkish.

I got that it was front lit from the side-by-side photo. My mistake on the the other photo. Thanks.

I hope we could have soon pictures side by side of ebooks from Libra Old/BW and from Libra Color/Colour to see if black and white pages are blurry as previews said.
Colors are bonus but black and white have to be at least at the same quality.

From what I've seen it so far, I expect b&w to be ok if you don't compare it with any recent carta screens, but a tad less clear and slightly dirty looking if you put it next to the libra 2

They aren't, at least from the pictures I've seen. It's a trade-off. Some will be happy with the trade, some will not.

I do find it rather funny that, since I started e-reading back in 2011, the cry has always been "screens are too dark, not enough contrast" and now that color e-ink is here, folks are practically stampeding with their wallets towards dark screens with less contrast.

But I also understand it.

I put my 2012 Sony T2 up against my 2021 Sage in a room lit with only ambient lighting, nothing direct, and honestly, the differences between my old T2, a Kobo Aura HD, a Kindle Oasis 2, and the 2021 Sage were pretty negligible if all front lighting was off. TEN+ years of e-ink development and without front light, a casual glance and these 4 reader screens looked virtually identical.

Of course on close inspection, you'd see the contrast and sharpness gains. But for most folks, I suspect it doesn't seem like much of a compromise to turn a front light up further.

I'm not against having a color reader, but it would NEVER be my main reader with the current technology. I don't think my old eyes would care for the trade-off.
