What on earth is a "manual (hard) reset"?

Either that or a manual factory reset. See: Manual reset your Kobo Aura Edition 2.

So, just turned it off and on again. Which, as everyone with a computer knows, fixes far more problems than it should.

Unless you just happened to do this while it was plugged in.

Powered it off, then held button for 30 seconds. It went to a "Restoring..." screen, then booted. I had to set it up all over again. No WiFi issues.

As DNSB says, a manual reset.

On a different note, when I did a factory reset from the developer options, there were still WiFi issues.

I guess that the dev reboot doesn't completely wipe the device.

Also...

The manual factory reset requires that the device is plugged. And it has to be powered off.

The manual factory reset and the factory reset from the Developer options are the same. I have checked this a few times. The both completely wipe the root and book partitions and restore from the recovery partition. The factory reset from the Device information screen doesn't wipe the root partition. It only only wipes the book partition to reset the contents. That probably doesn't clear the WiFi setup.

It sounds like the original factory reset was the latter version, which is not what @DNSB suggested.

Yes, it was plugged into the wall.
As for the factory resets, are you sure that you've tested them on a newer firmware? Maybe the newer firmwares have different settings for resets.

That's actually the reason I tested them. Originally, there was no factory reset option in the Developers options page. At that time, all of the factory reset methods, including the one on the Device information page, did the same thing, a full format of the root and book partitions and a restore from the recovery partition. When the factory reset on the Device information page was changed to just format the book partition, the full factory reset option was added to the Developers options page. That change wasn't very long ago. But, checking now, the two different factory resets in the UI work as expected.

Are you saying the developer options reset doesn't do a complete wipe anymore?

Also, has anyone tested KSM on a Mini?

Does KSM still work on the current firmware? If the answer is no, I suggest putting that in big bold letters in the first post of the tread.

I just tested the developer factory reset on my Clara HD and it wiped it back to the factory firmware. A ~900MB KoboReader.sqlite file might have been the cause.

As for KSM? I'd suggest that if you want to use KSM, you should at least look at KSM 9. Otherwise, look at the One-Click Install Packages for KOReader & Plato which seems to be better supported at this time.

No I definitely didn't say that. I stated what I remembered each did. Then I decided to test just in case it had changed. The tests confirmed what I had remembered and I stated that the options did what I expected them to do.

To be clear, there are two types of factory reset with the current firmware. These are:
  • From the Device information settings page. This wipes the book partition but does not change the root partition. The firmware is not changed.
  • A full factory reset. This formats the This formats the root partition and the book partition. Then it installs the firmware from the recovery partition. This can be started in the following ways:
    • From the Developer options page when developers mode is on.
    • Manually when starting the device from off. The exact method depends on the model, but, the effect is the same.
    • When starting the device and nickel doesn't start properly four or five times. When this happens, a prompt is shown about doing a factory reset.

After any of these, any sideloaded books will be lost and the setup prompts will be shown.

In older firmware, there was only the full factory reset. This changed sometime during 2019. At that point, the factory reset in the Developer options was added.
