Thy Kingdom Come by Christoph Friedrich Blumhardt and Johann Christoph Blumhardt (edited by Vernard Eller) is available for free at the following link in mobi, epub or pdf format. Note: the link asks for a name/email address however the download is available immediately without any further steps.

https://www.plough.com/en/topics/faith/thy-kingdom-come

Quote:
About The Book

Christians the world over pray "Thy kingdom come" daily, but do they know what they are asking for? These short selections will spark a burning expectation for this kingdom to break into this world, here and now.

Meet Johann Christoph Blumhardt and Christoph Friedrich Blumhardt, two German pastors who experienced this kingdom as a daily reality, through this compilation of excerpts from their sermons and discussions. This book is not intended to be an analysis of the Blumhardts' thought, rather an opportunity for the Blumhardts to introduce their thoughts for themselves. "If their own words fail to inform, enlighten, or move the reader," writes Eller, "there are no words of mine that could reverse that situation."
From the book:

Jesus sees every person as abnormal but gives up no one as lost. If people were not as they are, they would have no need of Salvation. So, in the next place, Jesus allows all to come to him as they are: sinners and righteous, poor and rich, healthy and sick. Jesus gives himself to each person as he is; and people ought not play up their own piety and put down that of others.

Signs and wonders are all right as legitimate proof that one has to do with our dear God; but they cannot truly help us. What helps us is justice and truth; and a hundred thousand miracles are of little use in comparison to one word of truth, or one command of truth through which God makes something straight that was crooked.

The capacity to hope is extremely important both for the kingdom of God and for our own development, because something very real and powerful has been laid in our hearts with this hope. One might say that we have been given a power that corresponds to the power of God. A power goes forth from God to make something of us; and from us there goes forth a hope that we shall become something. And this power of God and our hope go together hand in hand, as in a marriage, walking together. We in hope and God in his power, we belong together so that we can follow a purpose, the good purpose of God.

Add to the list StepBible: http://StepBible.org. Awesome word studies and number of cross references. Downside: it appears that you can use only the ESV. If so, I would consider this online Bible site a supplement to an online Bible site with more translations.

If you are listing online Bible sites you certainly need to include the NET Bible which is defined by the fact that it is on the NET https://netbible.org/. It is its own translation and has copious notes. They also include other translations.

I have also occasionally used "BibleStudyTools.com" .... when my preferred site accidentally was missing a few verses in the Spanish version of my passage. I reported the error to the first site, but don't recall where the passages were so I don't know how quickly they are fixed. That's up to the supplier of the bible itself, I was told.

The Mythic Past: Biblical Archaeology And The Myth Of Israel by Thomas L. Thompson is $2.99.

eBooks.com
B&N
Kobo
Google Play
Amazon

Quote:
The Jewish people's historical claims to a small area of land bordering the eastern Mediterranean are not only the foundation for the modern state of Israel, they are also at the very heart of Judeo-Christian belief. Yet in The Mythic Past, Thomas Thompson argues that such claims are grounded in literary myth, not history. Among the author's startling conclusions are these:
  • There never was a "united monarch" of Israel in biblical times
  • We can no longer talk about a time of the Patriarchs
  • The entire notion of "Israel" and its history is a literary fiction.
The Mythic Past provides refreshing new ways to read the Old Testament as the great literature it was meant to be. At the same time, its controversial conclusions about Jewish history are sure to prove incendiary in a worldwide debate about one of the world's seminal texts, and one of its most bitterly contested regions.

Gazillions of Bible Translations.

Actually, more like about 125. Then at the bottom of the list is a link to a webpage of approximately the same amount of translations, which apparently the website is aware of, but for one reason or another, does not know of the existence in digital form.

I _think_ that all of the translations are in English, the website being owned and run by Tyndale House, a U.K. organization.

Miscellaneous volumes of "The Preacher's Commentary" set, edited by Stuart D. Briscoe, are marked down at Amazon. It appears to me, from several pieces of evidence, that the whole series may going out of print.

The entire 35 Kindle-volume set is now only $99.99--which averages less than $3 per volume! Many, if not most, of the individual volumes are marked down.

I may buy other volumes, but I've gone ahead and purchased Volume 23: Micah / Nahum / Habakkuk / Zephaniah / Haggai / Zechariah / Malachi. It is $4.99 (the price of $19.99 is marked through). I didn't take time to vet this 500-page behemoth for myself, but purchased it on the basis of great ratings and reviews, though few in number, that the book has and the reputation that the writer, Walter C. Kaiser, Jr., has as an exegete.

The entire set: https://www.amazon.com/Preachers-Com...3850997&sr=8-3.

The Kaiser volume: https://www.amazon.com/s?k=Vol.+23%3...lachi&ref=is_s.

This month's free Logos book is a volume from another well-respected, scholarly series. From The New International Geek Testament Commentary, the volume on Mark is free, the combined Colossians and Philemon volume is $4.99, and 1 Corinthians is $9.99.

The commentaries are critical, theological, and exegetical. Since they focus specifically on the Greek texts, they have much more critical information (discussing textual variants and probable original readings) than most other commentaries.

The books can be read in the free Logos software or online.

Keep in mind that we're near the end of the month, so there will be a new book next week.

There are also monthly free books for the same software at Verbum (the Catholic version of Logos) and Faithlife (for more popular works, rather than academic).

A Real Classic, but One I Don't Remember Being Marked Down Before.

_A Shepherd Looks at Psalm 23_, by W. Philip Keller.

A shepherd reflects upon his years of experience for a fresh perspective on Psalm 23 . . . .

Has a well-deserved 4.8 stars, at Amazon.

https://www.amazon.com/Shepherd-Look.../dp/B001EH5YRM.

ADDENDUM: I thought that I had included this in the main body of the text . . . . the book is _99 cents_.

Add to our little list StudyLight.org.

Its study _tools_ are basic.

Where this Bible study website shines is in its huge quantity of books. For example, it claims to have _110_ commentaries! Most of their works are older ones, to be sure, but the list appears to be curated, which I find helpful.

Thanks for creating the Wiki, and bringing it to our attention!

Likewise, thanks for letting people know about the 213 free books at Word Search Bible. I would like to add that WSB gives away one free book each Friday (https://blog.wordsearchbible.com/tag/weekly-free-book/). Both of these giveaways are of a mixed bag--often the books are not of the highest quality in terms of content (on the other hand, sometimes they are what I consider very good in that aspect), but the ones that I've inspected have always had good formatting and such.
