I think you just need to sit back and relax a bit people.
+1
Don't worry about checking 5 times a day - Amazon will send out a mail as soon as the shipping and delivery dates are set

I just called them and they have no idea why the order summary pages show these late dates. They assured me that the dates shown when I ordered are the accurate ones. They are putting this information to the web teams to find out what is going on.

They had an update dated 6th Aug that states orders placed by noon on 1st Aug will be shipped by 27th Aug and from then till last night they ship 1st some first served, but by Sept 4th.........from today they will ship by Sept 8th. Their own update to CS reps today..........

Emailed them earlier, and got back this reply:

"Further to your email, please be advised that as you placed your order before mid-day on August 1st, your order will dispatch by the 27th August release date. Therefore, you can expect to receive your package either on or soon after this date."

I guess it is just an error then.

here was their response to my question last night

Hello,

Due to strong customer demand, Kindle (Latest Generation) is temporarily sold out. If you placed an order before 8 p.m. PST, August 1st, your order will still ship by the August 27th release date. You will not be charged for your order until your Kindle is shipped.

We hope you enjoy your Kindle.

Did I solve your problem?
so I guess we're good....Interesting how their answers vary, one agent says "midday august 1", while mine says "8PM PST August 1st"

Crazy. It still says the delivery estimate is between October 1st and October 5th when I log into the Orders page. But when I click on the Order Details itself, it says "We need a little more time to provide you with a good estimate. We'll notify you via e-mail as soon as we have an estimated delivery date. You can cancel at any time."

Just what is going on, Amazon?!

When I ordered mine the main page said orders placed today are expected to ship on or before Sept. 4th. Today the main page has changed to on or before Sept. 8th and my order status has gone from unknown to delivery date of Oct. 5th...ugh! When I contacted customer service to ask about it, the only offer of help I received was as offer to cancel the order

Maybe I should just stick with my Sony, this is not off to a good start.

Could the difference be that you contacted US CS and the other poster contacted UK CS?

Sounds to me, Amazon staff don't have a clue what's going on either - matt314159, Otter and I all received different responses to the same problem. Not particularly encouraging, is it?

AnemicOak might be right, could it be location-based? I'm in the US, pabulous, are you in the UK by chance?

Just checked my account again, the delivery estimate has gone again now and it's back to "We'll notify you via e-mail as soon as we have an estimated delivery date." Good news, I suppose.
