I'm at 30%. Jury's still out, but the last scene *car ride with the Nawab after polo* increased my estimation.

I'm almost at 40% and I love it, but it's not a book you can read quickly. Else you loose too much of the detail and that's where the good stuff is. Forster is a subtle author.

Life moves slowly for the characters in an E M Forster book. I don't think the characters can handle a faster pace.
I seem to recall in A Room with a View that every time something happened suddenly, the main character seemed to swoon and her peceptions of the event seem strangely muddled and incoherent. That said, I love the way his characters always make me smile with their observations on other people, on life, on a country, on almost anything. Contrary to those who claim his writing is out-dated, I do tend to see parallels in my own life. |

Herr Sun riser, kind leader,
Do postpone the start of the discussion a bit. All these fine readers and smart contributors are still in the middle of a book that NEEDS slow and careful reading. Festina lente, adelante ma con juicio. |

I haven't heard from the big chief yet. I would like a bit more time. This morning I read Forster, while on the beach, lazily, finely, thinking of the play of appearances, inspired by my fellow sun bathers that do not leave much to imagination.

I have finished it, but would welcome extra time to revisit certain chapters.

Hello all,
I understand your requests, but to keep to the dates posted I think it's better to start the discussion thread today. Mind, that doesn't mean that any of you need to hurry up and finish. Finish at the pace you enjoy and join in with the discussion when you're ready. I do sympathise though - I'm not done yet either. |

We're already discussing, aren't we? May as well make it official.

I've been ready for sometime. If a lot of people really need a little more time I would not object to a few more days though.

It's pretty much policy for both book clubs that those who can discuss, do, those who haven't finished yet enter at their own risk with regard to spoilers, and everyone steps in as they're ready and able.
The beauty of a forum is, discussion doesn't have to happen all at once. |
