I agree that calibre is not designed for a lending library but I found that it works well enough for keeping track of both my ebooks and pbooks.
I really want all my books in one database so that I'm not checking two databases to see if I have one particular book so my paper books are added to my Calibre library and tagged as pbook. (and when I'm checking if any of my pbooks are missing, I pull up my pbooks from the calibre server onto my tablet to create my checklist) Before calibre I had entered most of them into a bar code scanning app that allowed export as CSV so when I switched to calibre I just had to master the Import List plugin. Nowadays I just add them as I buy them. |

I actually have noticed a good handful of my old favorite authors seem to be going indie now and moving some of their old books that seem to no longer be under the old publishers to their own accounts now on amazon. Every once in a while I will see what seems to be a new book also.. One day I might check them out. it's been so many years since I read much of theirs that I have trouble keeping up with all the new stuff from the newer authors I follow. @audeojude Jim died quite a while back and the choice of what is currently picked by Toni is just not my cuppa. I still buy some Baen, all from the old stable of authors.
I agree, the bundles are no longer the great bargain they were. That is a business decision that probably was needed to survive. As to the Free Library, 2 things. 1) Eric Flint passed. 2)The same reason bundles got pricier. Other retailers did not want back room sales. |

I have had a least 10 authors I really liked pass in the last 4 years. In a selfish kind of way, its very sad. So many series that there will never be another book. Also probably 30 of my current favorite authors are 70 or older. So I am anticipating more of the same. lol. seeing as I am going to be in these age range soon no guarantee I will be around to read them anyway
I find this age range tends more genre's I like or mindsets that are simpatico. Though that isn't at all to say that a lot of younger authors aren't. However The deeper political and even most of the better character driven writers tend to be older with more life experience. |

Currently I am replacing 10 8tb and 10tb drives in my NAS with 18tb ones, as I am running out of room, moving to 10GBit fiber optic networking and taking an old x99 asus motherboard and putting a xeon 18 core cpu with 128 gigs of ram as a virtual host to run Plex, Audiobookshelf, multiple game servers for the kids, A homeassistant server, and a few virtual workstations that can be accessed remotely. other than the hard drives it's actually been moderately inexpensive. anyone wanting to go to 10g networking its a good time to do it. You can pick up intel x520 SFP+ network cards for under 30 dollars all day as well as DAC cables cheap, or fiber-optic transceivers and fiber optic cables for under 20 dollars each.. actually usually under 10 dollars. Lot of data centers are moving to 25 gig and 100 gig networking so the older stuff is being sold off dirt cheap.. great for small office/home market. |
