Depends on the problem. I twice confirmed the slow pageturns with sideloaded epubs, includng installing over a factory-reset KT, and I'm not the only one. The extremely poor UI for managing shelves is also unrelated to anything else; it's just poorly thought out and implemented.

Thanks, meeera. I wasn't referring to that problem (though it is important) - I was referring to the semi-bricking that people have experienced.

return to home page is annoying!!!
My problem is that I can read about 3 - 6 pages and then the book bookmarks itself and reverts back to the home screen. I have factory reset about 5 or 6 times...thought the problem was solved last night when I was able to read for 3 hrs straight...no reverting. And then this morning - bam! back to the same problem. I have contacted Kobo and did what they said to do, but still am having the same problems. Any suggestions?

Hi, Nilvento. I'm still a newbie when it comes to the KT, but during my recent readings I came across a similar question, though dealing with an earlier firmware release (https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=162832). It seems that there may be a problem with some SD cards, so if you use one, the trick seems to be to reformat it using a specialist SD card formatting program see: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...54&postcount=7, though it didn't always work.
If you aren't using an SD card, try changing the the number of pages after which the screen refreshes (at the bottom of the "Reading Settings" page). The default is 6, so, if nothing else, if you set it to, say, 2, and the return to homepage thing happens more often, at least you have narrowed it down to the refresh process. |

Maybe it is already mentioned in this thread but I find the battery life improved with the latest firmware. Surprisingly unresponsive page turns have started after a few weeks and syncing with my iPad is hit and miss. My iPad is not showing the full page now, I lose the top and bottom lines. Very annoying, changing font size etc has no effect. Anyone been able to fix this?

Then, hoping to move up to the .19 firmware, I downloaded the 1.9.17.zip file (found here: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=185660 [1.9.17.b] ) . I unzipped it and copied and pasted the entire contents into the KT device folder (shown in Finder on my Mac). Kobo Desktop was turned off as advised. But the KT Device Information still says that the firmware installed is .13, so I dunno what I did wrong. Are the files in the 1.9.17.zip file really for that level of the firmware, or did I just not manage to unpack them properly? I saw them in a list, copied them and pasted them into the Finder KT folder. Then ejected the device, but it didn't install them. That aside, the page turns are about twice as fast as in the 2.0.0 software. And the fonts and cover appear to be in much clearer resolution? Not sure about that, as my eyes are old! Could this have to do with updates to the firmware for the Japanese rendering, I wonder. But I am happy with the quicker page turns. Last edited by camtosh; 08-13-2012 at 06:26 AM. Reason: typo |

I think that the firmware has to go in the .Kobo subdirectory on the device.

Correct... the upgrade folder, manifest.md5sum and KoboRoot.tgz should all be copied to the .kobo folder.
On Windows, I open the firmware zip file in WinZip, then open an Explorer Window and navigate in it to the .kobo directory, and finally drag and drop the contents of the fimware.zip file to the .kobo dirctory. |

Thanks for the advice Peter on getting calibre to "recognise" the Kobo. I have done this and the odd thing is that calibre now gives a tick to the books I have bought, and one book (Middlemarch) which I downloaded after the upgrade. But it just doesn't see the other public domain books already loaded onto the Kobo.
It isn't a problem, I just thought I should report it. |

On a Mac, Finder = Explorer window, and when the KT is plugged in, the contents of the KT are shown when you select the Kobo Touch device in Finder. I thought I did copy the right files over, but it didn't seem to change anything. I will try this on my Windows Vista machine at work, and see what happens. Thanks Peter and Murg. . . . SUGOI! It worked this time, using Windows Explorer on the pc. I could actually see all the folders on the KT (somehow I missed seeing .kobo on the Mac in Finder). Now I have .19 installed, with the shortlist carousel and the clock! Perfect. domo domo Last edited by camtosh; 08-14-2012 at 02:13 AM. |

You can probably make the .kobo file show up on your Mac in Finder by ensuring that it it set to show 'hidden' files. No idea myself where that would be. Gomen! |
