View in-book handwritten notes in the Kindle app on Android.

Now you can view handwritten sticky notes taken on Kindle Scribe on the Kindle app for Android or Fire OS. All your notes and highlights are accessible in the app, even if your Kindle Scribe isn't nearby. Download the Kindle app from the App Store or visit the Setup and Registration page for installation help.

Kindle app for Android version 8.97.100 and Kindle app for Fire OS version 14.97.100 or higher is required. View version info in the app by clicking More > Info > About.

Yes, I can confirm it works.

But pen annotations for Print Replica personal documents do not show, and you cannot see handwritten sticky notes with read.amazon.com, or other Kindles running the same firmware version as Scribe.

I still find 'sticky' an unpleasant adjective to use. I never used physical sticky notes and stickiness is not something I want anywhere near my reading devices. 'Handwritten notes' would have been sufficient.

I am okay with sticky notes. You really don't "write" on the book, but it is rather than writing a note on a sticky note, and stick that on the page.

Well I have my Scribe. I gambled and bought one second hand on eBay. It’s a basic 16GB with Basic Pen but it came with the mulberry leather case and I paid just under £200 for it (including next day postage). I am in love with it. I’d definitely update if they bought out a new model, perhaps with waterproofing, as I like to read in the bath and by the pool.

The first thing I did was use the browser and go to A03 and downloaded a story as AZW3 and it appeared on my home page. It worked perfectly.

It’s truly a thing of beauty.

Enjoy!

You won't be disappointed with the storage space. The only reason to buy bigger size is if you see yourself start reading a bunch of graphic novels, or any other kind of picture books with more pics than text.

I'm glad it worked out for you, but buying on ebay is taking a chance. I bought a "used" one on Amazon and it looks like brand new - not a mark on it. I bought a "used" Paperwhite before that looked like brand new, so I was willing to try it again.

I would have preferred to buy a used one on Amazon but in the UK there isn’t any.

So you can't read magazines obtained through KU on the Scribe? And how do you even find them to send them to the PW or whatever other device? It says I've borrowed it but I can't find it anywhere. Thanks for any and all help.

I've a minor annoyance.

Backlight turns on momentarily when Scribe comes out of shut down, then turns back off. I have quick boot turned off, and I have backlight turned off in settings.

Was this always the way Scribe worked, or did this happen with one of the latest updates? I'm on 5.16.7. I see nothing worthwhile in the 5.16.8 and 5.16.9 to update.

Not everything is available with a Kindle edition. If you have added a KU magazine to your library, and it supports Kindle, it will show up in the Library list. I just added Family Handyman to check, it works as expected.

But yes, there seems no way to browse for Newsstand content on Scribe itself. You have to use a browser and check 'devices and platforms' to see if Kindles are supported (for some reason Scribe is not included in the ones I've looked at but they'll work if other Kindles are shown).

You must be talking about full screen refresh?

It has to do that to transition from Lock Screen image to whatever was displayed when it locked. So all the pixels go 'white' for an instant. But I do not see the front light flash on and off (when I turn it all the way down).

It's unlikely to be behavior that update affects at all.

When I turn on Scribe with power button. Backlight turns on for a few seconds, then it turns to my backlight settings as they were when I turned the device off. If I have backlight set to max warmth, max brightness, it'll first cycle to low brightness - cold light setting, then back to my max warmth setting. Or if I have backlight turned off, it'll first turn on the backlight to the same low brightness cold light, then turn it off again.

Also, this only happens when the device comes out of 'deep boot'. If 'deep boot' is disabled, this never happens. When I just turn it off and turn it on again quickly, it also doesn't happen. As far as I know, Scribe doesn't go immediately into 'deep boot' when button is pressed. I don't know how long it needs to be turned off to go into 'deep boot', but when it comes back from it, it always takes longer compared to 'quick boot'. It's certainly more than just a few minutes.

I just don't remember it doing this when I bought it. I've now updated to 5.16.9, and it still works like this.

So, something annoying a discovered with the Scribe. I have a PDF I used Send to Kindle to put on my Scribe. This converts the book to a print replica kfx. I used the pen on the scribe to circle typos.

Then a few hours later I fired up the Kindle app on my iPad and downloaded the book. It happily synced to the last read position, but all the stuff I circled was not there.

Maybe I should have highlighted it instead of circling it?

Yes, the Kindle apps do not (yet) display pen annotations, but do sync highlights, text notes, bookmarks, and reading position.
