A Sinster Revenge is the eighth and next-to-most-recent (2023) in Deanna Raybourn's Veronica Speedwell series. It's on sale in the UK right now, although, somewhat oddly, at different prices at Kindle and Kobo...

Kindle UK, £1.99: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0B3HJG44W
Kobo UK, £2.99: https://www.kobo.com/gb/en/ebook/a-sinister-revenge

Spoiler:
Quote:
Veronica must find and stop a devious killer when a group of old friends is targeted for death in this new adventure from the New York Times bestselling and Edgar Award–nominated author Deanna Raybourn.

Veronica’s natural-historian beau, Stoker, has been away in Bavaria for months and their relationship is at an impasse. But when Veronica shows up before him with his brother, Tiberius, Lord Templeton-Vane, he is lured back home by an intriguing job offer: preparing an iguanodon for a very special dinner party.

Tiberius has received a cryptic message—along with the obituaries of two recently deceased members of his old group of friends, the Seven Sinners—that he too should get his affairs in order. Realizing he is in grave danger but not knowing why, he plans a reunion party for the remaining Sinners at his family estate to lure the killer out while Veronica and Stoker investigate.

As the guests arrive and settle in, the evening’s events turn deadly. More clues come to light, leading Veronica, Stoker, and Tiberius to uncover a shared past among the Sinners that has led to the fatal present. But the truth might be far more sinister than what they were prepared for.

Several Judge Dee mysteries by Robert van Gulik are on sale for $2 or $3 in the US (Kobo, Amazon)
Also Murder in Ancient China is $1 (Kobo, Amazon) which isn't listed in the above links, and this is its regular price.

Her stormy marriage immediately points to her evasive husband, Steven, as the killer. But Chief Inspector Jim Ashworth is not so sure.

This complex mystery will have you turning the pages until the stunning conclusion.

Quote:
A body in a bureau sends the Scotland Yard detective on a vexing investigation in this “absorbing and stylishly crafty” mystery (Kirkus Reviews, starred review).

When a dismembered corpse is found in the compartments of an antique writing bureau, Marshall Trueblood, recipient of the precious piece of furniture, is the first to protest: “I bought the desk, not the body, send it back.” But the dead body of Simon Lean presents more pressing concerns. Who, for example, would want to kill the greedy nephew of the wealthy Lady Summerston?

Leave it to Superintendent Richard Jury of Scotland Yard to suggest a connection to the murder of brassy Limehouse lady named Sadie Driver, found dead near Wapping Old Stairs . . . if that stone-cold body on the slipway is really Sadie. Not even her brother, Tommy, on a visit from Gravesend, can swear to it.

A Fatal Illusion is the eleventh and next-to-most-recent (2023) in Anna Lee Huber's Lady Darby series. It's on sale right now in the UK, where it's £1.99 at Kindle UK and £2.99 (but discountable) at Kobo UK.

Spoiler:
Quote:
New parents Lady Kiera Darby and Sebastian Gage look forward to introducing Sebastian’s father to his granddaughter, but instead find themselves investigating an attempt on his life...

Yorkshire, England. August 1832. Relations between Sebastian Gage and his father have never been easy, especially since the discovery that Lord Gage has been concealing the existence of an illegitimate son. But when Lord Gage is nearly fatally attacked on a journey to Scotland, Sebastian and Kiera race to his side. Given the tumult over the recent passage of the Reform Bill and the Anatomy Act, in which Lord Gage played a part, Sebastian wonders if the attack could be politically motivated.

But something suspicious is afoot in the sleepy village where Lord Gage is being cared for. The townspeople treat Sebastian and Kiera with hostility when it becomes clear they intend to investigate, and rumors of mysterious disappearances and highway robberies plague the area. Lord Gage’s survival is far from assured, and Sebastian and Kiera must scramble to make the pieces fit before a second attempt at murder is more successful than the first.

The Pearl Diver is now $1.99 in the US. I really liked this series in DTB, but only a few of the titles go on sale very often - although those few go on sale a lot. But The Pearl Diver isn't one of those, so I'd grab it fast if you want it.

After almost four years, The League of Frightened Men is on sale again in the US, this time for a bit more, $2.99, but still not bad. And it's also on sale in the UK for £1.49. The links below are still good in the US, and here's a UK link:

Dead Pigeon is the fourteenth and last in William Campbell Gault's Brock Callahan series. (Don't believe the series stuff that says it's the seventh of seven - it's just the seventh of seven e-pubbed by that publisher...) It's only $0.50 right now at Kindle US.

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00920K996

Spoiler:
Quote:
In his final case, Brock investigates the murder of his troubled college roommate Maybe Mike Gregory was too smart for football. When he and Brock Callahan roomed together at Stanford University, Mike was a second-stringer with the skill to go pro. But he squandered his talent and drifted after college, briefly working as a stockbroker before descending down society’s ladder, becoming a drunk, then an addict, and finally a snitch. The police aren’t surprised when they find him in Santa Monica, face blown off with a sawed-off shotgun, but Brock is puzzled. Even at his lowest, Mike was too smart to go out like that. Though he’s been retired for years, Brock’s investigative instincts kick in at Mike’s funeral. As he plumbs the depths of his old friend’s broken life, he uncovers a toxic cocktail of cultists, mobsters, and corrupt law enforcement. Caught in the middle, this unlucky snitch had nowhere to turn.

Dead Pigeon is the 14th book in the Brock Callahan Mysteries, but you may enjoy reading the series in any order.
