Unusually Low-Priced Zig Ziglar Book
Ziglar's ebooks show up as markdowns fairly often. Unfortunately, the markdowns have never been great enough that I felt compelled to buy (I'm a big tightwad . . . er . . . bargain hunter). This is the best priced, and the best markdown (94%!) on, a Zig Ziglar ebook that I have seen.
Ziglar, if you are not acquainted with him, probably could best be described as a motivational speaker. He is very upbeat and gets across his great motivational points and messages using a large amount of humor. And he is definitely funny. For those who might be offended by anyone who talks about his or her religion, please be aware that Ziglar unabashedly acknowledges being a Christian, and occasionally brings that belief system into what he says in his writings and speeches. It is never "in your face," however. This book is rated 4 1/2 stars, so it must be a good one. That's just what I have come to expect of anything that Zig Ziglar produces. Zig Ziglar's Life Lifters. By Zig Ziglar. Rated 4 1/2 stars, from 11 reviews at the present moment. Print list price $17.99; digital list price $17.99; Kindle price now $0.99. B&H Books, publisher. 248 pages. http://www.amazon.com/Zig-Ziglars-Li...zig+ziglar%27s. Book Description For over thirty years, Zig Ziglar has been in the business of encouragement. This beloved author and speaker has shared his wisdom, his sorrows, his humor, and his faith with millions who are the better for it. Zig continues his life's mission with a new book designed to encourage and build hope, whatever your life circumstances are. Life Lifters offers vignettes on various topics such as attitude, love, inspiration, relationships, goal setting, and motivation that will help you become “excited about your country, your family, and your future” and will provide you a lift in your attitude and enjoyment of life. I don't have an interest in the preparation/bug out/survival kinds of books. Maybe I should. I know that there is a possibility that something could happen where you would need information to be able to survive relying only on yourself, but I think that that that possibility is extremely small. Evidently some people are "convinced," however, and take the stuff very, very seriously. |

Gtrs, it is my understanding that for years survivalism was sold on the basis that American society would collapse if too many Americans decided not to work.
Now I understand the sales pitch to be far different - that too much of our infrastructure is linked to each other throughout the country. It may be easy for a few agents of a foreign power to shut down our electricity or gasoline supply nationwide with just a few bombs placed in key locations. Personally, I've never been enthusiastic about any of the scenarios that have been laid out. But as a former Boy Scout who was taught "Be Prepared," I have *never* trusted those who say "It can't happen here." |

HarperCollinsPublishers Football (American) Titles--Marked Down to $1.99!
I don't know how many Mobilereaders like the particular sport, but HarperCollinsPublishers has marked down 7 of their ebooks on the subject of football, I'm sure as a tie-in to the Super Bowl to be played in a little over a week from now. (Duh!) The price is $1.99 each now.
This is real football--American football--not the one called "football" by, well, the rest of the world I guess (that one Americans call "soccer"). Mobileread has an international membership, and I know that many soccer fans take the sport very, very seriously, so before I cause an international incident (or, perish the thought, World War III!!!), let me quickly say that I am just kidding. Okay? I'm just kidding. So, you non-American-football people can pass over the rest of this post and move on to something else. But, you will miss my humorous (attempted, anyway) take on this promotion. You've gotten a taste of what you're in for . . . er . . . what you will be blessed with from what I've written already. Those of you who do not like humor (you know who you are)--at least my quirky, hyper-inflated one--but like real American football, you can go down to the last paragraph (unless I change it), click on the link, and get most everything that you need to know. But aren't you curious about what else that I will say? C'mon now, aren't you? Of course, this offer is intended for those people who aren't tired of hearing about the upcoming football game, football game parties, sales on stuff that you might need for football game parties, football footballs (I have reference to the deflated (possibly) football (the ball, not the game) scandal), and all of the other football-related messages on TV, radio, the Internet, billboards, newspapers, magazines, et al. ad nauseum. Back to the subject at hand: you can see the whole list of HarperCollinsPublishers marked-down football titles here. You can even purchase an ebook directly from there. But, you can only read an ebook that you buy directly from HarperCollinsPublishers "on the HC Reader App for iPhone/iPad, Android, or Kindle Fire" (boo! hiss!). However, I spot-checked one of the seven books, and the price was the same at Amazon. So, you don't have to buy directly from HarperCollinsPublishers and have to deal with an iPhone/iPad, Android, or Kindle Fire; perhaps a proprietary format; perhaps a proprietary ebook reading software; and who knows what other joys [that's sarcasm] like that. My advice? Use the HarperCollinsPublishers website to find out what's on sale, then go somewhere else to buy the one(s) that you want (now you know that you've done that before, c'mon admit it!). One final thing: the instructions that I got with the announcement of this sale says to enter the promo code FOOTBALL199, but in previous sales by HarperCollinsPublishers' like this, it hasn't been necessary because the promo code is pre-entered for you. If I was a betting man, I'd bet the ranch that it won't be necessary now. The linky to the webpage for the sale in the text above is pretty hard to see (no doubt, in part due to all of the junk . . . er . . . stuff that I wrote). So, being the kind guy that I am, I'm giving the fuller version: http://www.harpercollins.com/salespromotion?. Now that one was easier to see, huh? Last edited by GtrsRGr8; 01-24-2015 at 06:27 AM. |

Fascism vs. Capitalism: The Central Ideological Conflict of Our Times - free
http://mises.org/library/fascism-versus-capitalism Book Description “Fascism” has become a term of general derision and rebuke. It is tossed casually in the direction of anything a critic happens to dislike. But fascism is a real political and economic concept, not a stick with which to beat opponents arbitrarily. The abuse of this important word undermines its true value as a term referring to a very real phenomenon, and one whose spirit lives on even now. Fascism is a specific ideology based on the idea that the state is the ideal organization for realizing a society’s and an individual’s potential economically, socially, and even spiritually. The state, for the fascist, is the instrument by which the people’s common destiny is realized, and in which the potential for greatness is to be found. Individual rights, and the individual himself, are strictly subordinate to the state’s great and glorious goals for the nation. In foreign affairs, the fascist attitude is reflected in a belligerent chauvinism, a contempt for other peoples, and a society-wide reverence for soldiers and the martial virtues. Lew Rockwell examines the starkly contrasting systems of capitalism and fascism, noting pro-fascist trends in recent decades as well as the larger historical trends in the United States and internationally. In Section One, Rockwell focuses on the nature of fascism and its influence in Western society, with a focus on American political and economic institutions. In Section Two, Rockwell examines capitalism as the enemy of, and antidote to fascism. Combining economics, history, and political philosophy, this book doesn’t just provide a diagnosis of what ails American and Western society, but also sheds light on how we might repair the damage that has been done, and with the help of the intellectual work of great minds like Murray Rothbard and Ron Paul, we might as a society shed the fascism of our times and look to freedom instead. Note: The views expressed on Mises.org are not necessarily those of the Mises Institute. Last edited by Ricky D'Angelo; 01-25-2015 at 12:55 PM. |
