Black is Back, the 2nd book in the Artemus Black series by Russell Blake, is currently an Amazon Countdown Deal for $0.99.

Quote:
In this second installment in the acclaimed BLACK series, Artemus Black, Hollywood PI to the stars, dives into the rap music scene to stop a killer - with often disastrous and humorous results. Fans of hard-boiled detective fiction from Elmore Leonard, Michael Connelly and Lawrence Block will enjoy Black's trials and tribulations, all delivered with a tongue-in-cheek cynicism that's uniquely Russell Blake.

Contents Under Pressure: a Britt Montero Mystery - Book One

http://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B...cm_cd_asin_lnk

The first novel in Pulitzer Prize-winning Edna Buchanan’s riveting Britt Montero series.

Meet Britt Montero, a crime reporter for a major Miami newspaper. She practically sleeps with a police scanner by her bedside. She’s smart—and reckless—enough to pursue a story no matter where it takes her.

When a high-speed police chase leads to the death of a black football hero, Britt discovers that what seems like a cut-and-dry case is actually an intricate web of racially charged violence. As the city she loves explodes into a major riot, Britt is caught-up in life-threatening events that bring the case to its shocking twist.

I've read and enjoyed several books in this series in DTB in the past, so glad to see this one and several of the other early ones out in ebook.

Seems to be free in the UK, too.

It might be worth mentioning that the Pulitzer was for journalism, not for fiction, though, since they seem to have missed that bit out in the book description.

A woman’s body is found on the seashore near the Harling Pier.
Detective Superintendent Viviane Peterson, the new face in at the police station, is put on the case.
She soon realises that the young woman was a fellow police office - Linda Handley - and that she was strangled by the Cancer star sign pendant hanging around her neck.
Linda’s best friend, Mel Goring, is an investigative journalist for the local paper. And she is determined to get to the bottom of the case.
When another young woman is found murdered in the same way, wearing a similar necklace, the case turns deadly serious.
Is the killer targeting his victims based on their star signs?
As Mel gets closer to DI Nick Trask - a colleague of DS Peterson - she finds herself becoming more and more involved in the case.
Can Mel step back and let the police team solve the murders?

Or will she risk her life in a desperate attempt to unmask the killer?

Free today on Amazon UK - Seven Cities of Greed by jean Sheldon

When Jacqueline Tracey purchases a hand carved leather journal at a Chicago book auction, it promises an adventure in New Mexico for her and her friends. Instead, they are chased by a modern day Conquistador who will stop at nothing to have the book and the secrets it holds. The journal describes an expedition in 1539 led by Franciscan Friar, Marcos De Niza on a search for the mythical Seven Cities of Gold. The author, Pedro, accompanies the Spaniards disguised as a priest, but his writings suggest he was far from a holy man. As the middle age adventure-seekers follow ancient clues and maps to the Land of Enchantment, Samuel Barnes uses his wealth and influence to track them. Are they ready for a show down with the man who believes he is the Emperor of Cibola?
