I joined FB to stay in touch with the grand kids, i found that if i send them an ordinary email i never hear back from them, but if i post on their FB page they will gladly communicate ...

Those issues, from what I've seen, were caused by 3rd-party apps and not FB itself. Again, not a justification, but there is no such thing as 100% secure in any event. I won't use any of the apps on FB, and I've only entered contests when I know who the contest sponsor is (and verified it by going to their site). It all comes down to common-sense; it's no more "high risk" than the rest of the 'Net. |

If I had to go to FB to stay in touch with family or friends, I'd probably lose all contact... I only once gave in to my mother with (then) a new way of communicating: MSN. My mother kept bugging me to take a MSN account (and later Skype). But beyond MSN and Skype, I refuse to go... |

I just watched a story on the news about a guy that got sacked after posting pics on FBc at his family get together on a night he was supposed to be working.
Can't believe people post all their life details without some security. The IT guy at work has all his emails through google, all his private document are there. He has the right security set but I can't help thinking about big brother. Not necessarily government but Goggle of FB themselves. They are at war to control your personal data. http://news.oneindia.mobi/2010/11/09/704231.html |

Have to be on it as part of my work (and it is useful as an author too) but I just get in/get out - I don't bother with any of the fluff on it or publish any private information on it.

I understand glitches happen. I just think it's more high risk if you are putting up an unusual amount of personal information, and on a site owned by someone who publicly begrudges people's desires to keep their information private. |

what's becoming increasinglyy annoying about both facebook and twitter is "places" that make announcements, whether they be time changes, sales, whatever... is posting them solely on one of those 2 places

At one time everyone was so worried about an Orwellian civilitization in which "Big Brother " would be able to peek into everyones information and secretly see what we are up to and who we talk to . I now feel sorry for Brother now , with things loke FB and tweeting and IM and Texting we put soooo much inane babble and info out there about our self-important lives that "BB" is about 12-18 months behind in his snooping an dbeing buried deeper each and very day . Most times we are out own worst source of intimate knowledge that we used to be so cafeful to guard with our lives.
Heck , I don't even have a cell phone ,if I want to talk to someone I'll call and if I want to recieve a call I'll either stay home or call home and check my messages . I don't see what is so great about having your day interupted over and over again by people who you are probably out of the house trying to avoid already . |

I don't care much about my privacy as my name is already popular in Google and there is nothing I can do about it.
What I don't like about Facebook is how it is turning into company portals. First it was about connecting with friends and to have a book of faces. Now we have shit load of companies sticking their trademarks all over the Facebook. Not good. |
