Could you also make the same changes to the KobotTouchExtended driver?

When I get home I'll take a look at KTE but I doubt it will need changes. It uses the original KT driver for its device access. I think the only thing which would be missing is the inclusion of a device specific override CSS file.

OK. I've just done some looking at the code for KTE; the only area that appears to care about the Kobo model is in driver.py where it is determining which Extra CSS file to use from the device. There is an area of code handling "self modifying css" that is enabled by the "Uploading of books" / "Modify CSS" option. The code as written contains
Code:
            device_css_file_name = self.KOBO_EXTRA_CSSFILE
            try:
                if self.isAuraH2O():
                    device_css_file_name = "kobo_extra_AURAH2O.css"
                elif self.isAuraH2OEdition2():
                    device_css_file_name = "kobo_extra_AURAH2O_2.css"
                elif self.isAuraHD():
                    device_css_file_name = "kobo_extra_AURAHD.css"
                ...
so this would need to be extended with tests for all newer devices.

I still need to take a look at the KT348 driver to ensure it's consistent with the main KT driver.

I should add the issue I mentioned in the previous post regarding KTE support for the newer devices applies not only to its usage with the KT348 driver but also it's usage with native calibre KT driver.

Cursory testing of this driver with Calibre Portable 629 worked.

However no such luck with Portable 348 No errors displayed but no device detected either.

Kobo Utilities seemed to work fine as well with Portable 629, however no such luck with KoboTouchExtended.

**IDEA**: I see that KoboTouchExtended defines a new class KOBOTOUCHEXTENDED that inherits from KOBOTOUCH. Likewise KoboTouch348 defines a new class KOBOTOUCH348 that inherits from KOBOTOUCH. When I have a chance I'll try changing the inheritance in KTE to inherit from KOBOTOUCH348 and see if that helps.

Of course this still leaves the question as to why Portable 348 does not work

You are missing the point of what's going on. What's going on is trying to add the new Kobo devices into an older version of the Kobo driver(s) so those who have a computer that cannot run a current version of calibre can still use calibre with newer devices.

Device: Kobo Clara (HD en Colour)
So i'm completely new here and found you since i have problems with my old Macbook Pro (2015) and my brand new Kobo Colour.

I've installed the plugin mentioned above (Kobotouch348-1.3.zip) in my Calibre 6.29. After this it seems the Kobo Colour is still not detected (not like my Clara HD), but I can send books to the ClaraColour. BUT these books (including cover) are displayed in the wrong size (only a quarter of the screen in is used?).

Calibre gives this error when reading the device:
Quote:
KOBOTOUCH348' object has no attribute 'device_model_id'

Traceback (most recent call last):
File "calibre/gui2/device.py", line 104, in run
File "calibre/gui2/device.py", line 518, in _get_device_information
File "calibre/devices/kobo/driver.py", line 1563, in get_device_information
File "calibre_plugins.kobotouch348.driver", line 111, in set_device_name
elif self.isClaraBW():
File "calibre_plugins.kobotouch348.driver", line 69, in isClaraBW
return self.device_model_id.endswith('391')
AttributeError: 'KOBOTOUCH348' object has no attribute 'device_model_id'

Is it me who's doing something wrong, or is this the plugin which doesn't fully does the job?

Okay.... So I've actually installed the first version instead of the second (1.1.0), after installing the correct one it actually can open and see in ClareColour. It does give an error:
Quote:
Kobo database versie niet ondersteund - Zie details

Traceback (most recent call last):
File "calibre/gui2/device.py", line 104, in run
File "calibre/gui2/device.py", line 588, in _sync_booklists
File "calibre/devices/kobo/driver.py", line 1005, in sync_booklists
File "calibre/devices/kobo/driver.py", line 2479, in update_device_database_collections
File "calibre/devices/kobo/driver.py", line 3920, in modify_database_check
calibre.devices.errors.UserFeedback: Kobo database versie niet ondersteund - Zie details (Kobo Database version is not supported - see details)
But books are mostly send correctly to the ClaraColour now. The same books are still only using a quarter of the screen size, but that is probably in the epub(..? Although they seem right on the Mac)

Check the Kobo option "Attempt to support newer firmware" found on Metadata, on device & advanced" tab of the KoboTouch driver.

Just got my Kobo Libre Colour - but uploaded epubs do not remain visible after reconnect. I can send an epub to the device, they are visible in Calibre under the "Device" button. I also got two books from a shop on the device already. So three books visible under "Device".

I reconnect the Kobo and the epub is gone, only the two bought from the shop remain visible. Under drive D: the epub is visible in its subfolder, and it is perfectly readable on the Kobo, but its just not recognized anymore by Calibre. How can I debug this?

Latest version of Calibre 7.15, device all updated with firmware 4.39.23027.

Use Kobo Utilities (plugin for calibre) to check if the database is corrupt.

I have the exact same problem and the when I use koboutilities to check the database it finds it ok and uncorrupted. I have no idea what the problem is I tried all different kinds of plugin and books format and I factory reset the kobo twice just to try on a "clean" device
