Do not blame yourself for the benefits of Microsoft (Dark Force). I am electronic engineer and PC pro since SP-M OS (Before DOS and Windows). At most computers I still use Windows 2000 pro as the fastest and most reliable OS. XP is crap compare to Win 2000. I have it at one of my 8 computers at home just because some idiots write programs that cannot run on Win 2000. Win7 is a crap too - bloated without any reason. Soon I may switch all my computers to Linux.
OS (Operating System) is just a middleman between BIOS and your application. Do not be a slave for a fancy interface. If you want a cool picture - buy an electronic picture frame, and enjoy pictures. PC is a tool to make money, everything else is from the Devil (Microsoft).

Now all I have is a stupid small usb flash drive that I can move files in and out of, but the device itself cannot see the files, only computers can see the files. Windows, Mac, etc.

I tried flashing in the firmware again, it doesn't erase the internal memory and recreate the tables.
Run scandisk (right click on the Drive, select Properties. The Tools tab: Check for errors) and choose to repair.
Before clicking Start, close all explorer windows attempting the drive. Shut down (QUIT) Calibre if running or the drive files can not be repaired.

I sent my PPro back to Astak with the problem. Quick turnaround. The replacement is fine, I emailed Tech Support and asked if they could tell me what the original problem was to enlighten us all, he could not say but said that the unit was replaced (not repaired).

Hope this isn't a pattern.

I find it ridiculous that the device cannot "see" it's own drive, while computers running Windows, OS X and Linux can see and work with the contents of said partition no problem. I've tried everything.. formatting in 3 different OSes, using different programs, partition editors, I've even tried changing the partition flag, partition scheme (mbr, guid, etc.) and nothing works to get the device to see it's internal space again. So now it's a SD card only unit.

It is foolish that the firmware doesn't have a "repair" or "format" routine in it. The BlackBerry does. You can format the built-in internal memory from within the BlackBerry OS.

The hardware of the device is good, but I feel Jinke really doesn't care much at all about the user experience. In another thread it was talked about how this device is better than a Sony because of "support". This is true, but there is one thing that both Sony and Apple are good at which is that they actually try to make it "just work" or have a "decent" user interface. I just discovered a pdf that apparently was written in courier or some other light spindly font. This is going to be impossible to read on the device due to no ability to override PDF fonts or force it to jet black. When it comes down to it, ergonomics matter. It is not enough for Astak to be a vendor, they need to get the source code from Jinke, whether they sign NDAs to do so or not, and start adding to it. That, or tell the openinkpot people how to access the hardware.

Sunspark:

Sounds like you hit it on the nose. I made a copy of your solution in case this ever happens again.

Thanks!
