So, who is going to be the first to give this a try. I can get a kindle, but I'm worried about getting content. I think it will have to be through a virtual credit card, but no one seems to know if this will actually work .

If you can get anyone in the US (a friend) to let you use their home address, Amex will be happy to issue a genuine american cc and you don't have to mess around with virtual cc of dubious origins. That is what I'd do, and I think it's by far the easiest solution. |

That would be a great idea, but unfortunately I don't have any friends in the US.

I would definitely NOT bother getting a Kindle outside the U.S. I would not be surprised if Amazon is busy negotiating deals with other country wireless providers, and then releases country specific models designed to work with wireless data networks in those countries. It only makes business sense. So you are probably better off waiting for a Canada/UK/EU/etc. specific version of the Kindle. The wireless chips in devices like these are trivial to swap at manufacturing time.
