Also, they must be falling around laughing at Amazon as their rivals *voluntarily* restrict themselves to being small regional players.

Got this same email today. Nice that they provided an ample degree of advance notice on the change!
One throught--I had understood that most UK publishers maintained "Commonwealth Rights" which would mean that some of these ebooks should legitimately be available outside of the UK/Ireland. If that's the case, Waterstones is applying a stricter constraint than is actually necessary. |

I also received the email over the weekend (as with some others, this is several days after the ban came into force). I just have to shake my head in disgust these days - it's just so frustrating. What is even more irritating is that half the time, you can't even purchase the ebook direct from the publisher!

That really sucks. I bought from waterstones simply because they had books that weren't available in the US. Notably, my first purchase from them was The Third Pig Detective Agency.
Really a shame. |

I can't agree with you more.
I'm losing confidence in the publishers. Not really sure it's worth anymore supporting them. Let them discuss piracy whatever they want, but instead of solving it by making books available, they are making it worse by dangling the carrot but not giving it... |

If the retailers or US publisher could tell you who has the distribution rights in your country, you would know where to get your books or at least pester for availability.

There are definitely titles they won't sell to some people, but that is the fault of the publisher/author/agent combination. |
