The wiki page for windows shows just the way you've written it. See the DOS box at the bottom of the page.

Great work on putting this all together!
Thanks for catching that! The change has been made. I'll add your screen shots this morning. Thanks for making them!

I wonder if it would make sense for someone to modify the kindlepid.py script to simply detect which type of serial you have given it. Since we know Kindle serial numbers are 16 chars long and iPod/iPhone ones are 40 chars long, it should be a simple len(input) and boom you have a universal keygen.

Thoughts?

Yes, but he is creating instructions for Mac users. So, using a command that will work for Mac users is probably the way to go.

Of course, there is a way to not have to type python on the Mac. If you ad the correct shebang to the script and set the permissions so the file is executable.

I'm just a duck, so I don't really know. I don't think it's a big deal right now. If Amazon should open to other smart phones, it could get wacky enough that a universal version would indeed be needed. But, if you've got the skills and want to tackle it, I'd be happy to beta test it.

True - perhaps I should have been more explicit. On the Mac instructions, it should have python at the beginning of the line. I wasn't trying to suggest the Windows instructions needed to be changed!

I know that, but I figured it was a whole lot simpler just to have the instructions tell you to type python at the beginning of the command - its only six characters.

You are so right. Several people have had trouble with my directions on the KindlePID/Fix pages where I have them do this. Although seems their troubles are in creating a sym link. It seems that not all Mac users have a /usr/bin/local even though that folder is in the default path.

On my iPod it is:

Code:
/private/var/mobile/Applications/CDD4E8B4-5543-42ED-84A7-2825FA716ECB/Documents/eBooks
It may be slightly different on different iPhones.
