A first run glitch when running Preferences. I think I'm going to play with this in a virtual machine over the next day or so.

@Kovid, could this be related to stored geometries? If so then it would happen once when the dialog is opened using the "old" geometry. The geometry would be updated when the dialog is closed so it doesn't happen again.

From the screenshots it looks like a resizing issue of widgets inside the dialog. Not the dialog itself. Their geometries are not stored and the geometry of the overall dialog *shouldnt* affect this.

since yesterday Calibre doesn't work anymore. Both versions 32bit and 64bit.
i can start it, but nothing more. Freeze with no response anymore.

Oh and if i wanted to close the sh*t, it takes a while. Task Manager close? Nope, no response too. ALT+F4, Nope, no response i had to wait.

Soo sad to see because i loved calibre many, many, many years. Atm i uninstall calibre.

First of all, there is no CURRENT VERSION in 32 bit.

The fact that Task Manager does not Kill the Calibre process, indicates a way deeper SYSTEM issue than Calibre. Calibre was just the trigger that tripped your system problem. It may be bad cooling (fans or vents clogged).

Well, as most of us aren't experiencing this problem, then it must have something to do with your computer. Otherwise there would be hundreds of reports of Calibre no longer working. There aren't.

Well, there are quite a few people running 7.16, so there is something else happening.
Microsoft is always updating (as well as others). Something changed.
If you feel 7.16 is the issue, go to the official download (if you did not keep a copy of 7.15) and download the previous version.

Now I have a new issue that's popped up. I decided to test Preferences again and when I clicked on Output options, I got a dialog saying Waiting for printer. When I cancelled it, I got the correct dialog from Output options.

I'll get a screen gram if it happens again.

I've seen that message from multiple programs. I suspect it is coming from changes Microsoft is making in the printer driver area and is not an issue with the program being run.

A quick Google search will show many hits for "waiting for printer connection".

I've only seen it with calibre. Maybe I'm just lucky until today.

No "Store this column's value in an OPF" check box in the "Column built from other columns, behaves like tags" column type when it's being created.

This is intentional. The purpose of the check box is to prevent writing very large template results to an OPF. I didn't see the point if the template results are tags. One doesn't have comma-separated images.

Your second image is not the definition of a composite column. It is a standard text column.
Quote:
Why the 'inconsistency'? It is only available when creating a "Column built from other columns" column?

BR
Yes, and specifically only non-tags composite columns.
