I suspect so, but I am using an older version of the tools which I run from the command line on unix. If you have changed credit cards in the last 3 months or so (like me), the ignoblekeygen script no longer works. However, if you have NookStudy installed, it has a log that displays the hash needed to decrypt your books. Since I'm not sure if I can link to it here, I'll just suggest that you search Apprentice Alf's blog entry from 2012/09/10 for the keyword CCHASH. If you can't find it, send me a PM, and I'll respond when I notice it.

It still works on standard epub books. But there is a type of pdf from B&N that they refer to as a "Page Perfect Book" that cannot have the DRM removed. I even posted at Alf's when I ended up with one of these books and they confirmed there is no way to remove the DRM from these types of books.

My book was purchased over 2 years ago and that's when I posted about the problem. So I'm guessing at this point it can't be done.

Yes, I think so too. If you have the old credit-card-based encryption, then you can open them in ADE 2.0 with your name and cc number just as you can with B&N epubs. So I think that suggests it's possible to unencrypt the B&N pdfs. Just that no one has bothered or has shared it.

The only program that will open these books is Nook Study, nothing else.

When I contacted B&N about initially not even being able to open the file to read it, they told me it's readable only in Nook Study. So if you can install Nook Study onto a tablet, that's the only way it's readable on tablets. I was already not happy with B&N forcing me to install another piece of their software just for one book. And I made sure I never bought another Page Perfect Book from them again. Actually, I seldom buy from B&N now even if it's a regular epub.

Thanks for the 'heads-up'... (I think I may have used a minus sign for that hyphen ;-) )
Soondai... I highly recommend downloading a copy despite your fears. You never know when you may need it. I had a heart stopping moment or two when I updated Calibre to version 2.somethingorother and found it removed all the deDRM plugins. |

Actually, it just disabled the older versions of the plugin(s) that weren't compatible with the new version of calibre. A compatible version of the plugin was released (in preparation for the impending calibre change) that would have worked with old and new alike.

Not only that, but the old plugin still worked, as long as you didn't need to add any new keys. (Or knew how to add the keys manually using a JSON editor. )
The plugin wasn't "disabled", it simply displayed an error message when trying to open the configuration dialog using the (nonexistent) Qt4 modules. |

I own this book (freebie): Grimm: The Essential Guide (PagePerfect NOOK Book) If you look at the device compatibility list, it lists:
NOOKStudy is not listed there, but I can confirm that it works there as well. I have also read it on my Nook HD+. I notice Nook for iOS/Win8 tablet is on that list, so theoretically it's readable on an iPad and a Windows tablet. They were also restrictive on some of their magazines only being readable on a limited number of devices, but they've been relaxing that restriction for the Nook for Android app. I just checked and I cannot view it on my Android phone (5" screen), but I CAN view it on my Nexus 7 (2012). Looks like they need to update their lists as it should be readable on MOST tablets, now. Last edited by hwlester; 12-23-2014 at 08:20 PM. |
