On SSD or USB-stick? Follow procedures from this site: https://www.raspberrypi.com/software/ Just do not use SD card but use SSD. Worked for me. |

just to add: I used balenaetcher to install the OS on the SSDs - that worked fine with the micro-sd |

To be honest, I used balenaetcher as well. Maybe the enclosure is not compatible? Don't know. And if you try with a Usb stick? (No SSD) The blue screen is OK! The next screen not so much. Last edited by mariosipad; 02-22-2023 at 12:33 PM. |

as all ssds failed (prob due to enclosure?) I just started now with a 128gb stick - with success Is that now an advantage to micro-sdcard? Considering that usb port 3 is blocked (1+2 are for keyboard and mouse) |

The second screen shows IO errors on 2 partitions /dev/sda1 and /dev/sda2 (the SSD). Something is going wrong either writing with balena (but verified!) or reading on the Pi. Strange.......... Do you have another enclosure (USB 3) for the SSD's to test? |

The advantages should be: 1 - bigger - more GB's (?) 2 - supposed to be better reading and writing speeds 3 - better at wear levelling - less likely to have bad sectors than a SD card Always shutdown the Pi, never pull the power cord before disk activity has finished. |

You do not need more USB ports: USB 2 2x for mouse and keyboard (buy a very cheap wireless keyboard/mouse combo with a dongle saves 1 port) USB 3 2x for USB-stick. On port left for SSD or other SD stick. You can always try VNC to you desktop, works surprisingly good. Last edited by mariosipad; 02-22-2023 at 12:56 PM. |

yes (though I don't own an electronic shop) - but both are SABRENT 3.0 Adapter Due to your arguments (thanks therefore) I finally use the OS from the 128GB Stick Now, I am again at the very first beginning - recommendation for the docker installation? Docker installation (either wired or wireless LAN needed): Step 1 to 4 from this website will probably work: https://www.simplilearn.com/tutorial...20technologies. |

SSD enclosure: something like this worked for me https://www.amazon.de/UGREEN-Enclosu...zcF9hdGY&psc=1 Check out this website for your Sabrent SSD case: https://jamesachambers.com/fixing-st...mware-updates/ I do not know if this works / no guarantees ;-) |

Thanks for all suggestions and recommendations you made - I am now tired after all those trials I made: I could use the same UGREEN enclosure you took, I had one in stock and: the OS on it worked. Startup was very quick - but: something blocks my keyboard and the mouse as well, whatever I tried to use - all SSD together with keyboard and mouse failed Another combination mouse/keyboard failed as well, even with a hub I am back now with my 128gb stick, which works fine and I will keep it now . I start now with the installation of docker PS Never can use the add (Strg -Alt-Q) Last edited by huber70; 02-22-2023 at 05:42 PM. |

After installation - I did nothing at step 3 (correct?) step 4 shows: xxxxx@raspberrypi:~ $ docker run hello-world docker: permission denied while trying to connect to the Docker daemon socket at unix:///var/run/docker.sock: Post "http://%2Fvar%2Frun%2Fdocker.sock/v1.24/containers/create": dial unix /var/run/docker.sock: connect: permission denied. See 'docker run --help'. xxxxx@raspberrypi:~ $ |
