I thought I had read that elsewhere. Now I'm curious. I'll probably have to find a free DRM book (or a cheap one) at B&N to see if DeDRM still works on my computer for B&N books.

Logging into Nook for PC
It’s my understanding that if we already have it installed we can use nook for PC. I haven’t used it in a few years, but never had any issues signing in and downloading my books. Now I get an error every time I try to log in. Anyone have any ideas? Thank you!

I would first reset the app and then try logging in again. Settings -- Apps -- Nook -- Advanced options -- Reset (I'm on Windows 10, but I'm sure the steps are similar for Windows 11) Have you made any changes to your security settings since the last successful login? Could your firewall be blocking the app? If using wifi, make sure it's not a metered connection. Also, allow the Nook app to run in the background. This setting stymied me once as I have a habit of disabling apps running in the background immediately after installing/reinstalling Windows. Settings -- Privacy -- Background apps -- Nook -- toggle on Hope this helps! |

The Nook for PC app support was discontinued. It's the Nook for Windows 10 app that still works; however it is no longer in the Windows app store

Don't know about Windows 10 because it worked perfectly on my old computer running Windows 10, but on my new computer running Windows 11, there's no option to reset the Nook app. And since I'd already future proofed all my Barnes & Noble purchases, it doesn't really matter anyway. I've moved on to another provider.

As of today, July 19, 2024, the app passed Norton's approval. I downloaded and installed it, but all I can do is read Nook books on my PC. I still cannot move books from Nook device to Calibre, or from Calibre to the Nook device. I wish I had known about the June 1924 deadline to download my books. 95% of my books are Nook. This forces me to buy a new Nook or a new tablet or an Onyx Book. Buying a Kobo will not help me download 1200+ Nook books. No reason to have Calibre, I guess.

For example, my Nook books are in this directory... C:\Users\MyUserName\AppData\Local\Packages\BarnesN oble.Nook_ahnzqzva31enc\LocalState Once you get there you'll see your ePub files (assuming you've downloaded your books from Barnes & Noble using the app). They'll be listed by numbers with the ".epub" extension. The won't be listed by name. To DeDRM them I believe you have to run a Barnes & Noble script in the DeDRM plugin in Calibre for first time use. That will set up a hash which you can back up. (I believe that's all there is to it but it's been quite a while since I set it up - besides I think there is a limit to how much I say about it in this forum.) (I don't know why the forum is adding a space between "N" and "o" in "BarnesNoble" - it's not there when I post, but shows up after posting?) Last edited by rcentros; 07-21-2024 at 06:22 AM. |

I don't see any space between N and o in your post.

I cannot download the 1200 Nook books into my Nooks at all since my 2 Nooks were discontinued. Don't the books have to be downloaded on my Nooks instead of in the cloud before I back them up on Calibre?
I know I can read them on my PC (Nook for Windows) or on an Android eReader or on a tablet with the Nook app or I can read them on a brand new Nook. I wanted to get a Kobo, but I cannot read my Nook books on it. I guess I am stuck using an Android ereader/tablet or a new Nook if I want to download my Nook books from the cloud. Am I correct that there is no way to back them up or organize the Nook books on Calibre? |

Adguard Online Link Generator: the Nook app
I am confused. Does Adguard have the Nook App or is it Nook for PC app? I just want to download my Nook books on my PC that were not downloaded by the June 2024 deadline. I cannot use my Nook to download them to my PC. Will the Adguard App do it? Do I need to buy a new Nook? Does the Nook App still work if I download it? (Not the Nook for Windows app.) Thanks |

I have never bought any Nook books, but to my knowledge that's not how you back them up - you don't download them to your Nook devices, but to your Nook app on your PC and get the files from the location where the app stores them, to import into Calibre. I have no idea how you remove the Nook DRM, though.

Once downloaded, you can read them into Calibre and DeDRM them so they can be read with your Kobo eReader. No Nook device is needed to do this. Quote:

There are other threads that explain how to do this in more detail. But it can be done. (Unless you can no longer create the needed decryption Hash in the DeDRM Calibre plugin. But I think it can still be done. If I'm wrong someone will probably correct me.) Last edited by rcentros; 07-21-2024 at 02:37 PM. |
