Maybe in the new forum the "This is an old thread message" could be more 'in your face'. Maybe with an 'R U Sure' popup if you start a reply. The other day I saw a reply with an alternative solution to a problem raised and solved in 2011

Not that it makes a difference but when I checked out Jon's link in the first post the thumbnail was there from before the first response in this thread. I thought I was just missing something that must have occurred prior to the thread being created.

The above thread is ruined by a moderator in a way that won't easily get it fixed. The poster posted an oversized image and a moderator removed it. Unless someone posts in a NEW message, the OP very well may not see this because most people just read new messages and do not go back.

This means the OP won't see this and won't fix it and the entire thread is therefor ruined because without the image, the error message is not there. The moderator should have attached the image or POSTED IN A NEW MESSAGE about the image removal and the solution.

Moderators should be told to do it in a way that works instead of a way that fails. This clearly fails.

But that doesn't always happen because the poster doesn't see the old message.

So even thought the poster fixed it this time, most times it doesn't happen. So this way of notifying the poster has to change so the notification is in a NEW message.

You know that won't happen. And the way the staff removes the graphics doesn't work. It only botches the thread if the graphics are needed.

Not really. It just means a lot of threads sit there without the images for longer than they need to be. If the "I've removed your images" post was put in a NEW messages, the poster would see it and deal. I;ve seen threads where the image(s) were removed and not fixed because the OP didn't see they removal message and the people participating at the time didn't either and nobody new to the thread bothered post that the thread was missing the image(s).

So don't say posting the message in the existing message always works. In most cases, it doesn't work.

Can you show me these most cases? As I haven't seen that happen very often.

Most of the removed images posts I've seen, the OP was just a hit and run. They don't actually come back for answers.

And yet, you aren't complaining about some posts being removed completely. Oh heck, I've seen whole threads disappear.

There have been times when the images removed and the OP did not know. And then there are the ones were the thread stalls before it gets going because the images are gone. The way this is handled is rubbish (IMHO).
