Ah, well it says almost the same as mine (albeit mine is in Spanish, hehe), but not quite... but I think that text part is configurable (sp?). Thankfully, except for the REALLY prohibited pages (such as "entertainment"), most have a "I am using this site for work" Continue button, which I use mercilessly, but this also buggers up any transaction I was going through, and it keeps popping up every four pages in the site, so it takes a bit of sly handling to actually be able to book my boss' flights, for example.

Wow, they hit the travel stuff too? That is nasty.
We don't get the option to continue, but we can try to explain to them why we need whatever it is for work -- I think I can make a good case for Dilbert. Officially they allow/ignore what they call "incidental usage" (I'm glad MR fits in there!), I may be able to convince them that my comics aren't nearly as huge a bandwidth hog as youtube was, which is the sort of stuff they were really after -- seeking the lowest effort solution, you know. |

Obviously, you wouldn't pay $20 to rent a DVD, since you can purchase one for that price. Also you don't lease a car at the purchase price. So why would someone license an eBook for the hardcover purchase price? My stand is that most people would not - but because some eBookstores misrepresent the transaction as a "purchase", many people do. |

I have the lucky position of sitting within hailing distance (two desks) from the administrator of the bloody program (who's a nice guy just doing his job ) so I can shout "oh hell, this one's blocked too, open up 'ebay' for me!", or send him an instant message with the culprit page. Since I have to do a lot of browsing in all sorts of places for my job... hehehe.
I'm actually the secretary of the IT dept., so I don't give user support normally, but some people, you know, just ring up "IT" and don't notice the difference. The CEO's secretary rang once and started off the convo with "I have two elephants...", which had me so busily thinking "WHAT??? Where does she keep them??" I almost missed the rest of the sentence, LOL. Turned out she sponsors them, and gets monthly reports on their wellbeing and so on... Websense was cutting off her access to these reports, so she says "well, I know it's personal and not business matters, but I want/need to see it!!" |

Well, Nathan, it seems you need to get to know the guy with the "keys." Maybe you should take him to lunch! ;-)

Place is a bit bigger than Ela's described workplace, and I'm a bit farther away from them -- I'd have to take out most of the department, and probably the CIO ... probably ~50 people ... maybe a 'Holiday' party....

Sorry,
But I got to say if you are getting your books from Torrents / scanned archives etc... you have to admit to your self you are (likely) using an illegal copy, no matter how it may go down in a court of law. Not going either way on this score, just pointing out the obvious . The rest is just to make ourselves feel better about what we're doing, it's still less than legal....moral is another kettle of fish (probaly something like smoked Haddock, I'm guessing) |
