@PenguinCEO

Do the following....

In the Calibre library window, Preferences > Saving Books to disk uncheck everything except Show files in the browser after saving to disk

Now in the editor, go to Tools > Preferences. In Editor settings uncheck Beautify individual files automatically when they are opened. Finally in Integration with Calibre, uncheck Update metadata embedded in the book when opening.

This way, editing in the editor won't change anything unless you change it and a save to disk will not change anything.

Just this. Simply.

I am still convinced that it is a useful function for all those who distribute epub documents managed with calibre.

I know very well that there are a thousand alternative ways to achieve this, but the simplest and most natural is to add a sub-option to Calibre's context menu, as anyone can understand for themselves. Calibre is a program to manage epub lists, and this is precisely a function related to the management of epubs.

If Kovid thinks this option is useless, I consider the topic closed. But I'm tired of reading surreal proposals of using two or three different programs in sequence (sometimes even rather poor ones, like sigil) just to delete a few lines from a text file, or to read certain idiots who claim to teach me ethics and honesty.
You don't need any other program. All you need is available in Calibre. I gave you the settings to use so if you do use the editor that it won't update the metadata.

just curious.

is there any one left who has offered help and not been insulted for trying ?

my new "surreal proposal" is ignore him, or treat him like he wants his metadata treated

And Kovid has told you that there is other metadata specific to your calibre library that is not user metadata that would not be removed, so that would still require some manual cleanup.

He's suggested that an export that saved with only specific selected metadata might do what you want, but that he's not interested in producing such a feature.

You could implement such a feature yourself if you wished, either as a plugin or by producing a patch for the calibre source itself.
