I buy hardcovers of books that I know I will re-read.
In fact, today I just bought 4 books from the Science Fiction book club, because they were having a BOGO + free shipping sale....

I buy a lot less. I tend to get paper books from the library as I don't have space for any more and I balk at paying $20 for one novel when I could get four or five e-books for that price.

I still buy print versions of reference books - books I may want open while I am working on my computer.

For fiction reading it is all ebooks. I might buy the odd paperback at a garage sale if the price is right.

Like a number of others, I buy a mix. With technical or reference I prefer paper, and I also buy a lot of secondhand books - I haunt used bookstores and charity shops looking for good novels from great authors. My den has more than a thousand books on my library shelves and I would not like to part with them. They give me a great feeling of comfort and provide a pleasant ambiance.

I buy and read both paper books and ebooks. For novels, I primarily use the ereader, but I'll get it in paper form if it's not available as an ebook.

Other kinds of books are just better in pbook form.

***Update..just bought 2 pbooks tonight..a former coworker from Borders owns a bookstore, so I showed support by buying some old school books.

Ditto.

Like two weeks ago, I bought a technical pbook only because in this university they gave us every year a voucher that is good only in the university's library. So technically the book was free. But even that, I prefer to read technical books on paper, so if I only have the PDF file then I print the pages I need to read.

I have not bought a non technical pbook (or ebook for that case) in ages.

I still buy manga in print version. I prefer pawing through manga and getting my hands all over the pictures, and though manga is black and white, I don't particularly want to see how it renders on the Kindle. I also enjoy collecting manga omnibuses because it shows off my love of the genre.

I mostly get ebooks but I have of late obtained a couple of paper books because I could not find those in the new formats.

My sole purpose in buying an ereader (starting with Sony Palm Clio ) was to buy digital because I have almost no more room on my many shelves to store books. Now I only buy paper for collecter books or books that are not available digital yet. However, I think long and hard to see if I can't wait for it!

I picked only buy ebooks, although I have bought textbooks and the like from bargain used books stores in the past few years.

I started reading ebooks on my palm pilot way back in 2002 or 2003 and I've never looked back. I have bins full of unread paperback novels that I store year after year because I can't bear to part with them since they represent hard earned money that at the time I thought was well spent.
But now, it is just too natural for me to grab the ebook than it is to read a paperback novel. I'll even read on my pc before I pick up a book. I'm the opposite of most people in that real books make my eyes hurt.

Yes, I buy used books a lot. They are generally cheaper than e-books.

I buy paper books once in a great while -- to support a fundraiser, because I'm collecting a series that isn't available digitally, because the kid wants to read a book and he's not allowed to take his Kindle to school -- but not very often and not impulsively anymore.
