Not contradicting anything said so far ... just adding Canadian confirmation.
There are "lots" of Penguin titles as Adobe DRM ePub available online using Overdrive and connecting to, say, a Kobo Touch or directly over-the-air to a Kobo Vox from the Toronto Public Library. Of course, there are no Amazon Kindle titles, as library loans from Overdrive, as none are available outside the US. |

First off, not all publishers are unreasonable; and secondly, they all have vast catalogs of ebooks already in existence. Those publishers who abandon digital will only be hurting themselves as authors leave for greener pastures.

And let's not forget existing ebook publishers like smashwords and bookiejar. They won't just go out of business.

This makes me so angry as I was looking forward to the new Patricia Cornwell book. Also Lisa Gardner and Robin Cook have new books coming out in the next few months. Stupid publishers need to evolve or die I think. Oh and stop being so greedy. I won't hesitate to pay 9.99 or less. I will pay 12.99 if I really really want it, but I refuse to pay more than that. I have been using the library extensively too.

No word yet from Penguin regarding their "security concerns."

I think this is just a ruse. In the case of a lawsuit Penguin might have to justify why they permitted non-Amazon ebooks at the library but wouldn't permit the Amazon books. They wanted to yank the Kindle versions but not all their library ebooks, so they're using this security garbage as an excuse. At least that's my guess.

And what garbage it is. It is just as easy to remove the DRM from epub as it is from mobi/azw.

One step back, no steps forward.
