My Pocket just 'died'...
Hello, all.
I'm from Brasil and I have a Pocket Edge dualbook, my best companion for the last 8 months - I'm a very avid reader! I found this forum a little while and it was here I learned how to download applications from Android Market to my Pocket , using my cel phone. Now I need help: he froze, and I can not reset! Anyone has a solution? cause I didn't understood not a thing of what all of you just said?... Can anyone help me in 'dummies' words? Please? |

One step forward, Two steps back
I'm back after a while. probably should have kept better contact. been busy with my Computer certification(s) at porter and chester
First the good. I've managed to make a serial cable for my pocket edge, get a terminal program to tell u boot to load from usb, flash the firmware to Edgejr and load dingo with a edited update.sh file. Now for the meh. the power slider has broken (have to use a paper clip or screw driver) but that can be replaced. not soo bad. Now the bad. This is the first time in months I touched the Pocket edge, so for some reason I have no LCD picture. the buttons on that side of the PE work but no touch response or picture. I've taken the back cover to attach the serial cable but haven't touched anything else but look at the battery on the other screen. I think I'm missing something here. @P-LOPZ: On the e-Ink side, there are a few flat cables going over to the e-Ink side. My guess would be that you dislodged one of them while doing other things in the case. You should check each of the ribbon cables to make sure they are fully connected.
@Tininha: Does your device turn on? What exactly is wrong with it right now? More detail on your situation would help us give more specific steps to fix it. |

Once you have the serial cable and Ubuntu Linux with a TFTP server installed, go here to fix your PE:

My Pocket is alive again!
Quote:
Yes, it turned on, but I could only get three dots ... I tried the reset with a paperclip and the screen showed up as Initializing and immediatly shutted off, just like P-Lopz said. That's why I posted here... I tried to reset several times, and nothing. But last wednesday I've read a lot of threads, and decided that what I'd to do was reinstall the Ermine (I've been using it for months, with no problem at all), so I downloaded the file (all of them, from all the sources mentioned in the forum...). But it doesn't work. Tried at least 20 times, and was about to give up, when I decided to try to install the dingo again - golden version, the fix version, by the way, cause the file was allways deleted from the pendrive, with nothing happening to the PE. And I never rooted anything - I don't even know what it means... After reading the post about the necessity of at least 2 times to get it done, I finnaly get it... in the 5th time. Then I tried to upgrade to Ermine, using a pen drive. Almost got crazy - dozen of attempts, and nothing! And in half the time, the upgrade file was deleted from the pendrive... also! Then I read the post of someone who had tried with the upgrade file in the SD card... well, I have to find that post again, and send to him! My Pocket is ok... although I've lost a few nottations and the journals that wasn't backed up... Is not exactly how it was - I did the last upgrade online, when Entourage was still on business... -, but is very fine, and I restored my library. I'm very happy, now. But I thank you for the help. This forum is very, very helpful. |

Tininha! I am so happy for you!
Persistence pays off! And a good reminder to back up our important items. |

How many people has experienced this?
Thanks, Filark (by the way, I love your bird!)
But I wanted to know how many of you (the owners of eDGe's) have experienced this kind of problem... the 'death' of the device. As I said, I used my PE for 8 months (with no more than 4 resets in that period) till the 'death'. And since I have restored it, I already had to reset it 3 times... I'm worried. |

Hi Tininha,
I know it's an old thread, but wanted to let you know that my PE seems to have croaked as well. When I did a manual hybernation, instead of letting the PE go on its own, it locked up and tried to reboot. It came up with the three dots and wouldn't do anything else. I came back here for assistance, and found this thread. I'm going to try to reinstall ermine and see if it may work. I'll be back later with more news... BTW -thanks for the info, I feel more comfortable seeing someone else has already done something similar. |

Back with nothing in hand... looks like something must have happened to something in the configuration of things that will likely require trying to go back to Dingo and then return to Ermine later. Hopefully the reset to Dingo will take. That's for another day.

Most likely your internal storage has an error in it (bad disk sector or something along those lines). You will need to refresh your ROM again. This happened to me twice. There was no other rememdy for me. I even connected a serial cable to see the boot messages and what not.
You lose some setup data, but you'll get your PE back in service. |
