I'll second or third as the case may be, the following:
Dracula The Time Machine I'd also like to suggest one of the Sherlock Holmes books. Last edited by JoeD; 11-17-2008 at 12:36 PM. |

Seem to be mostly Brit books so far.
I'd love to see some classic suggestions from other countries. My horizons need broadening! |

The first four books from the Sherlock Holmes series would be great.........drama without the 'angst' of Dickens or Bronte Sisters.

Please, no Three men in a Boat. It's too dry and if it wins, it will ruin the book club. We already are doing dry with A passage to India. Something fun and not dry s what we need next.

i'm not participating, of course, so i *won't* nominate anything, but i do think you should possibly give that book another chance, for your own benefit. seriously, it's "roll-on-the-floor-laughing" funny. |

I second "Don Quixote".
Also nominate "The Last of the Mohicans" "Red Badge of Courage" "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland" "The Iliad" "Ivanhoe" =X= |

If we're going for "a" Sherlock Holmes book then, IMHO, the best possible choice is "The Hound of the Baskervilles". Widely regarded as Conan Doyle's best book it represent Holmes (and Watson) at their finest.

I second (third?) Hound of the Baskervillles.
I've seen the film half a dozen times and the ending still takes me by surprise! |

BTW: Voting procedure. I was thinking once we got our ten or got to the end of the nominations period that the poll would allow for multiple selections but we would ask that each person vote for up to 2 selections.
Thoughts? BOb BTW: So far Hounds of Baskervilles and Time Machine will probably be the two I vote for. |
